That's what I told them to do to me. As many swats as they wanted. I simply was not going to spend hour upon pointless hour writing out sentences. My years in secondary school was a big enough waste without having to do stuff like that.

Swats, suspension, whatever. It wasn't like I was a bad student, and the parents backed me up on it (actually, one of the few times that happened — usually they would punish me far more severely than the school when I screwed up).

Oh, I've seen him be quite physical. He sure instilled fear in all of us. :eek:

My favorite story to tell my students on the difference.

 

7th grade all male geography class. Rowdy bunch of 12 year old males, typical. Former MSU football player is the teacher and about 3 weeks into the year calls the toughest kid in the class to the front of the room. Boy tells him to pull that paddle off the wall and spank him with it. Teacher tells him "who said I was going to use that paddle?" Went to the metal storage unit and pulls out a canoe boat oar. YES, a boat oar. Tells the boy the grab the corner of the desk. Lifts him OFF the ground about an inch with each swat. There were 3 of them.

 

I don't remember another discipline issue in that class the rest of the year. I personally didn't MOVE in the class unless my hand was up.

Also, for those out in the country remember getting kicked off the bus for misbehaving and you literal was off the bus. Didn't matter where you were. 5 miles from your home, so be it. Off the bus and find your own way home.

Not entirely too old...but I remember BEING the remote control for years, and years.

I remember a trip from Newport to Alexandria used to be a vacation because there was no highway or US-27, or at least thats what Im told.

My Grandpa and then my Dad owned an "Ole Country Store" up until I was about 13. It was the old wood floor store. I rememeber about once a month we would mop the floor with old used motor oil to keep the dust down and also and shine to the floor.

 

Have many fond memories from those times, filling the Stoker coal stove that sat in the middle of the floor(in front of the meat case)!!! Filling the "POP" box every evening.

 

I remember Froggy and Ranger Rick as Mr. Network mentioned. It was at his house that I watched my first VCR or Beta movie on a projection screen!!!!
