May 12, 200719 yr Boy, there's one I had forgotten about! We had a console TV with wooden legs -- kind of like a kitchen table with a TV in it. Anyway, when you turned it off, you got those three (red, blue, and green) dots that stayed on the screen for several seconds. Remember saving up cereal box tops and sending them in for something really cool? I still remember sending in tops from Quisp cereal and getting an awesome rock collection with all the little rocks glued into a cardboard box. Ahh...memories! I remember sending in Quisp tops to get this cool little number. As I recall, it shot powder.
May 12, 200719 yr I remember my parents dropping me off at my grandparents on Saturday evenings. (Dropping is the key word. I don't remember the car stopping.) I loved the TV dinners in the tin-foiled trays - however I had to watch Lawrence Welk and listen to that Ah one and Ah two... The best part was Albers had these horse racing cards you would get at the grocery store during the week. One of Lawrence Welk's commercial would feature a race from River Downs. If the horse on your card matched the winner on the commercial - you would win something of value. It was really fun to watch. I think. Come to think of it... I never won!

May 12, 200719 yr I was great grandma sitting today and she told me she remembered when gas was 20 cents a gallon. I must not be far behind great grandma. I can remember gas for 28 cents a gallon. I got to school and work on the "Greenline" bus/Tank. No A/C - no car of my own - the "good old days".

May 12, 200719 yr How about this. One of us kids in front of the T.V. Mom's at the bedroom window. Dad's up on the hill with the antenna. Kid yells worse. Mom yells worse. Dad twists the antenna pole. I had to laugh when I read this one....remember this one well. Reading all the post brought back lots of memories. Gas was 22 cents a gallon and all the service station were full service. LRCW mention about going to the swimming pool...we didn't have one...we would run the hogs out of the pond to go swimming or go to the creek. No soda pop either, we grew our own popcorn and made grape juice and canned it. Killed our own hogs...remember having to cook sausage till way up in the morning. We would put it in jars, turn them upside down so the hot grease would make them seal. Yes I remember the wringer washer, used to help my grandmother use hers. Remember having to burn the tobacco beds...my brother and sister and I would carry all the wood....just so we could "eat out" Mom would put potatoes on the coals and roast hot dogs..that was a big treat. Remember mom going early in the morning to pick up work hands to pick strawberries...we had 5 acres. That afternoon we would take them to Morehead and sell them...any left over we would stop at peoples homes to all was sold. I remember the peach trucks coming around in the summer selling fresh Georgia peaches door to door. I also remember the "Watkins " man coming around selling salve. We had treadle sewing machines at our school and manual type writers. Ed Sullivan was one of my favorite shows...remember when he had the Beatles on his show. Howdy Duty on Saturday morning....loved Clara Bell. Remember the saddle oxfords and knee socks, pegged pants and crew cut hair. Also made and ate snow cream...can you imagine eating that now....:eek: Remember playing my 45's. Roy Orbinson and Gene Pintey were my favorite.
