The KHSAA doesn't seed, that is the way it is, that is the way it always has been.

Yeah, but, shouldn’t you start out playing lesser seeded teams?  That gives nervous high school kids the opportunity to get in the groove to move up?  Again, heard from Cov. fans that the number one and two seeds played today.  I truly don’t know if it is true.  But for excitement and financial reasons, wouldn’t you want to play the two best teams in the finals?

Again, there is no seeding, just subjective ratings/rankings of the teams by nonaffiliated third parties. 

Tell your CCH friends to suck it up and get better. 

And yes, lots of us are into wishful thinking, especially when it is "our team."

Cov Cath got a break in the blind draw for soccer last fall, opposite of St. X. They didn't meet until the title game, which the Tigers won. 

The KHSAA made a windfall on an 11:00 am Wednesday game between arguably the top two teams. I don't think they're in a hurry to change things when this can happen.

As a Colonels fan, of course I would have liked a Saturday night game. I also wish 9th Region tourney MVP Cash Harney didn't have to leave the game with a back injury and about ten minutes to play.

I'm not anti-seeding, but it is what it is.

I get it. It stings a little. Great season; tough ending. Next year . . .

Picked a bad day to have an un-CovCath like day.  From listening to the audio stream, it didn't sound like CCH played bad, they just didn't play up to their usual standard.  It happens sometimes.

Best of Luck to the Tigers moving forward.

Colonels seniors, thank you for setting a standard for future teams to meet.

When you face high level competition, you can't do the things you usually can do. Everything is tougher.

Great year for CCH. Congrats on an impressive season!

Hopefully next year there will be more competitive teams in the 9th region. That would be better for everyone, including CCH.

I'm not from CC, but as a High School basketball sports fan, who will be attending the Sweet 16 this weekend, I feel like I've been cheated because the very first game of the State Tournament was the Championship game!  The KHSAA is in love with the RPI, and IF, the RPI is so good, seed the dang Sweet 16 or throw the RPI in the septic tank where it truly belongs!  No GURU, I'm not a major league crybaby, I just think the Championship game on Saturday night should be the 2 best teams in the state. Now it's not going to be that way.

With your theory, if the RPI is so great, why have districts? Just seed the whole region so teams don’t get screwed for being the 3rd best team in a loaded district.

I am in 100% agreement with @Big East Zebra on this one. Both of these teams should have met later on in the tournament. Covington Catholic ran into a buzzsaw today. They had a nice 1st Q, and then St. X asserted their dominance in more ways than one. 

As others in this thread have mentioned, when you shoot lights out, you will win. I do not see another team in this tourney beating the Mighty Tigers. And "Mighty" they certainly ARE. 

I believe the tournament should be seeded like the NCAA Tourney.

I 100% agree. CCH, as well as other schools in the 9th, will all benefit. CCH had a cakewalk in the 9th this year and it did not bode well come Sweet 16 time. 

You don’t change the entire format of the Sweet 16 just because the rules did not favor the Blue Colonels in 2026. I’m sure there have been other years when two of best teams played each other on Wednesday or Thursday.

Surprising when you look at the original poll from a few days ago, that  70% of the votes cast had Cov Cath winning.

Yep. 2012. #1 Trinity (Dieudonne, Foster, Saxton, Hicks, Quick) vs #2 Bullitt East (Willis, Troutman, Rakes) in Round 1. Rocks win on to win state. 

Incredible atmosphere and the game lived up to the hype in my opinion. I don't care what round that game was played,  I was just thankful to be there to experience it with my family. Didn't expect X to shoot the ball like that. CCH didn't play their A game and it was a shame #2 got hurt. This game, to me, was exhibit A on why this tournament is truly the greatest show in hoops!

Any catch the attendance for this one?

This sums it up in a nutshell. The 9th was down by any standard you want to measure it by. I fully agree, when there are 3-4 STRONG teams in the 9th where any one of them could win the region it makes for better preparedness once they get to Lexington.
