Based on these teams, I put it on ChatGPT to see what it said. Initially created a 7 team NKY district,  which it didn’t like as there is only a small chance the KHSAA would have that. So if showed two scenarios. One with it having two NKY districts including Bracken County, and one where Bracken County got moved East and left one 6 team NKY district.

The Two NKY District:

District 1

  • Mayfield
  • Caldwell County
  • Trigg County
  • Todd County Central
  • Fort Campbell

District 2

  • Owensboro Catholic
  • Hancock County
  • McLean County

I like RPI a round earlier but the elephant in the room with RPI is addressing out of state games and until that is addressed RPI is subpar at best.

Them seeming to be adamant about no 6 team districts, how would they move around D2? Would a team like Warren Central drop out of district play?

I thought they were adamant that there would be no 3 team districts.  Honestly, I don't think it's realistic that they can get away from doing it and still meet the mission of geography.  For instance, Boone County, Conner, Cooper, Covington Catholic, Dixie Heights, Scott a grouping here.  Five of those are in the current 5A District 5, and the addition is Covington Catholic.  None of those schools fit anywhere else without significant driving for their team or the others in the district they'd move to.

As for the Warren Central question, no, I don't get the sense they'll ever do that.  If they didn't when they were in the midst of their long losing streak, or when they were forced back down to 5A in the first place, I don't know why they'd choose to do so now.  Especially considering that district is the one they're in currently plus Warren East.  And they actually beat Warren East last year, so the addition of them wouldn't seem to be a game changer. I would also say if they had been scheduling aggressively for wins near or far in their non-district games to this point, then maybe I could see them seeing the value of dropping district play to add more.  All that would do is create additional games for them to find, which they seem to struggle mightily to do.

It wouldn't surprise me for East to not actually be up in 5A anyway - I had them as the smallest 5A school by enrollment and on those edges, it wouldn't surprise me if the KHSAA criteria differs slightly enough for schools to not be where it appears they would.

Would have to feel bad for Scott and Boone County in this scenario. As they finally got out of being a 6 team district in this current alignment, which now allows one of them to make the playoffs based on who wins their game against each other. However, with it most likely moving back to 6 teams with CovCath moving up. That means the chances of them making the playoffs again go down drastically.

Agreed. I don't see anyway of them being able to avoid 6 team districts in any class besides for 1A and 6A.

District 6 maybe the toughest district in the state. It will have 3 top ten teams and a 4 top 15 that’s hard.

District 1 would beat district 6. Owensboro would have beaten any of those teams in district 6.

Am I the only one that thinks there is a BIG difference between the teams in 5A District 6 and District 7? ?

Another example of the KHSAA making decisions on the fly instead of leaving it up for discussion. New leadership has been needed for the longest time.
