So if Highlands is projected to stay as one of the largest 4A schools, then that makes 5A football around NKY include Boone County, Conner, Cooper, Covington Catholic, Dixie Heights, and Scott. So I guess that puts that group into a single big six-team district similar to 2A District 5 under the previous alignment, which included Beechwood, Bracken County, Gallatin County, Owen County, St. Henry, and Walton-Verona.

If Highlands decides to petition to play up in 5A, then that opens a whole other can of worms with seven 5A teams in NKY....so who gets bumped elsewhere? Geographically speaking, the nearest teams in 5A appear to be either the Franklin County/Woodford County/Collins/East Jessamine crowd, or else some grouping of Oldham County/Jefferson County teams.

Are they giving the option back to play up fi you want or have they keeping it playing in the class your projected to play in?

The KHSAA has always allowed teams to petition to play up in class (but not down in class), based on geographical isolation from other teams in a similar class. The BOC reviews petitions to play up in class on an individual basis, and the petitions are not always granted. Unless someone has seen anything otherwise, I would assume that will continue to be part of the alignment process.

It wasn’t this last alignment. They dictated that wherever you were placed, you stayed. I know both Warren Central and Barren County were playing up to avoid Bowling Green and Greenwood, and that sent them down to 5A.

You are correct sir no way Barren would’ve been in a district with BG unless they have no choice.

Now that’s what I thought, that it was changed this past realignment. Before you could petition to play up and the next closet team to bottom of each class could play down due to that team playing up.

If Shelby and Franklin move to 5A like the numbers earlier said.  You have going West to East:

3.) Shelby Co
4.) Franklin Co
5.) Anderson Co 
6.) Woodford Co
7.) West Jessamine
8.) East Jessamine
9.) Madison Southern 
10.) Montgomery Co

Some folks are going to have to move. 

Don't know if that's Madison Southern to the Pulaski/Laurel District?

Or move Scott and or Woodford to the Jessmine/MoCo District.  But will they save a spot for the new Carter County HS?

Or I guess you can move South Oldham to the Louisville district.

Not the case in the last realignment they did not allow schools the choice to opt to move up in class!

If I had to guess they probably would make D3 a three team district and D4 a five team district, with the 5th place team in D4 being the 4th seed in D3 for the playoffs.

If these where the exact teams it would make the most sense because the other 4 teams from the previous alignment was already aligned like that. Eminence to Frankfort is 42 minutes. To Ludlow from there would be 1 hour and 21 minutes. From there to Trimble County is 32 minutes. Now Frankfort to Ludlow is 1 hour an 31 minutes. Frankfort to Trimble County is 1 hour and 6 minutes. But I do agree it be closer for them to play the other teams, but I believe I would want a chance to win district. Not saying they couldn’t win the other one, but they would be very favorable in the new one if it came down to those teams.

I didn’t say anything about which one would be easier to win, because you are correct the other one would be. Just that the state would most likely have Ludlow in their normal old district that they were in for decades with Bellevue, Dayton, NCC, etc. The only reason they weren’t this current realignment was because of their being 7 NKY 1A teams, so they had to split the NKY district in two. That wouldn’t be the case with this new one, and would most likely be just one NKY district. Which they would probably make that a 5 team district and have their sister district in this scenario be a 3 team district. As the state has never randomly put a NKY team in a district down south like you did with this, when there is another NKY district they can be in.

They may not, but with Newport being 1A now and the khsaa liking to have 4 teams per district, Ludlow could be the odd man out with playing the teams they use too. But overall I can’t wait to see the actual realignment when it comes out.
