When do we expect the draft to be available?

According to Jason Frakes's article on the multiplier, draft of the alignment is expected in late March or early April, with finalization of that to be approved at the BOC meeting on May 5-6.

I like RPI a round earlier but the elephant in the room with RPI is addressing out of state games and until that is addressed RPI is subpar at best.

When you least expect it.

One school that could be impacted is Bracken County. The Polar Bears are the smallest school in Class 2A for the 2025-2026 seasons. They currently play in a district with Beechwood, Gallatin County, Owen County, St. Henry, and Walton-Verona.

Bracken County’s most recent season in Class 1A was 2022, when they were grouped with Bishop Brossart, Nicholas County, and Paris.

Bishop Brossart could also be affected by the new multiplier. The Mustangs’ average male enrollment was 149. With the 1.35 multiplier, that number would become 201, which might place them in Class 2A.

It would be really interesting to see if one of the 2A teams that "moves down" ends up winning 1A.

They may not, but with Newport being 1A now and the khsaa liking to have 4 teams per district, Ludlow could be the odd man out with playing the teams they use too. But overall I can’t wait to see the actual realignment when it comes out.

While the KHSAA may like having 4 teams per district. They have also shown, they will do the scenario I mentioned, as currently in 1A in District 7 they have 5 teams, and District 8 they have 3 teams. The fifth place team in District 7, becomes the 4 seed for District 8 for playoff purposes. So they have shown that they will do that scenario, that is why I don't believe they will ship Ludlow out and make them travel south for district games, when they have a district they can just make 5 teams  and all schools within basically 15 minutes of each other.

With that said, I completely agree on being excited to see what the actual realignment will be.

This!

No matter what I personally think of what the KHSAA is doing I am very excited to see the new realignment!

Based on the numbers posted last night, I suspect Bracken County will be in Class 2A. Obviously they could stay with Beechwood, Gallatin, Owen, etc. I did a little back-of-the-napkin figuring last night and could also see them in a grouping with Lewis County, Morgan County, West Carter, maybe Sayre. Class 2A will have a lot of eastern Kentucky representation so it will be interesting to see how it is configured.

my thoughts of districts for Class 1A.

These are similar to the first of the 6 Class setup back in 2007.

D1 Russellville, Crittenden Co, Ballard Memorial, Fulton Co

D2 WeB Dubois, Louisville Holy Cross, Fort Knox, Caverna

D3 Frankfort, Eminence, Ludlow, Trimble Co

D4 Newport, New Cath, Bellevue, Dayton

D5 Williamsburg, Lynn Camp, Berea, Paris

D6 Hazard, Middlesboro,Pineville, Harlan

D7 Pikeville, Betsy Layne, East Ridge, Phelps

D8 Raceland, Paintsville, Fairview, Nicholas Co

I'm predicting a few 5-team and 3-team districts in Class 1A:

D1 - Ballard Memorial, Crittenden Co, Fulton Co, Russellville

D2 - Caverna, Fort Knox, Lou Holy Cross, WEB DuBois

D3 - Eminence, Frankfort, Trimble Co

D4 - Bellevue, Dayton, Ludlow, Newport, Newport Catholic

D5 - Berea, Nicholas Co, Paris

D6 - Harlan, Lynn Camp, Middlesboro, Pineville, Williamsburg

D7 - Fairview, Paintsville, Raceland

D8 - Betsy Layne, East Ridge, Hazard, Phelps, Pikeville

What will be interesting is if the non-district teams will be removed before the alignment is produced. For instance, if Phelps chooses to stay independent, does the smallest 2A go down to 1A to make an even 32?

I feel like Williamsburg in D5 isn't a terrible stretch. And then someone from D8 to D7.

When everyone in Class 1A makes the playoffs automatically, district size really doesn't matter. Class 1A schools are small and often low-budgeted; having a southeastern Kentucky team travel north of Lexington twice when four of their closest rivals in every sport are in a different district isn't something the KHSAA has typically done. Of course this is all speculation - we shall see!

I'd say Betsy Layne would fit best in my proposed D7; they played in that district a couple of years ago. I put Betsy Layne in D8, essentially hedging against whether Phelps would compete.

That's where it is currently, I believe.  There are 32 schools in 1A, exempting Phelps, who would make 33.  Which number seem to indicate would be Campbellsville being in 1A, in that scenario.

Was  told this evening by a very credible source there will be no more 3 team districts nor will there be anymore 6 team districts. But not sure if that will be implemented for the 2027 realignment or held off until the 2029 realignment.

Who else is still waiting for someone  to finish the "predictions" of each class and districts!! Would like to see Class 2,3,5,6 too!!
