I agree, as I don't think this hire will help add a lot more talent to the football program as some seem to be suggesting. Also Beechwood is already in 2A, as St. Henry is in 2A too. So I don't see St. Henry really ever getting out of the same district as Beechwood. Unless either Beechwood or St. Henry's enrollment grow enough to possibly move to 3A. 

Also, Sully wasn't pulling kids from the diocese into Cooper. He was pulling kids from other public schools in. I don't think the same type of athlete follows him to St. Henry but I do think over time he starts to get him some real good ball players in there, just a different type than at Cooper. Sully also benefitted from having some really really athletic football players that ended up being pretty darn good at basketball once he got his hands on them. St. Henry isn't ever going to have the same type of pool of football athletes that Cooper had.

Put me in this boat.  If you are a really good football player I think you would have to look in the mirror and ask yourself, why St. Henry?  Beechwood is going to running clock St. Henry for the foreseeable future and CovCath is in the mix for football championships.  So, going to St. Henry to play football comes with some major negatives for the time being. 

I think the point is the athlete that plays both won't automatically take st Henry out of the equation. They were missing out on a crap ton of football athletes that you never know they might get now. 

Several people in here focused on strictly the football part. No football player would pick them over CCH. Has nothing to do with beechwood, anybody's class etc. Pretty simple the kids coming up that are pretty good at both, will now consider playing time, coaching staffs, essentially everything across the board and make the decision. When before it was already decided because do no football. You mix that with the silly addition and yes St.Henry is gonna get quite a few more athletes.

This, plus St. Henry sports are naturally cyclical. Sometimes they get classes loaded with talent, sometimes they don't. The Vieth/Bessler team nearly beat Highlands in regionals (after beating them earlier in the season) and we know what the Bluebirds ended up accomplishing. For most of St. Henry's sports teams, success happens when the stars align, and that means lucking out with feeder schools or families who've long sent their kids to the school. But if you're an aspiring football player, you go to the school that produces Division-I talent and has an active NFL player, not the one that just started its program. Similar case with hoops. 

Congrats to Coach Sullivan! Our paths crossed when he was at St. Pat and Mason County. We liked him so much, we wanted him to coach football.

The 2003 Mason County Royals won the state basketball tournament. Their toughest game in the Sweet 16 was against Coach Faust's St. Henry team. Comparing scores, at least that week, St. Henry had the 2nd best team in the state. 

My point, I think St. Henry can be really good in both football & basketball and maybe quicker than anticipated.

Developing that football team will be a process, but I believe there will be a lot of young men that will be excited about being part of that process.  Then there are those two sport guys to be part of that process and play for Sully……book it, Dano!

Agree. Being part of the building process is special and under appreciated. 
 

One of the reasons the Leffews & Jacob Tamme are legendary at Boyle…. They were studs when it was just getting started. 
 

Those guys, along w/ Matt Quinn, Jeff Duggins, Brandon Smith, etc have a special place in that history. 
 

Who will be those guys for St. Henry? Will be cool to see it happen. ?

With the hire of Sullivan, does anyone from Cooper follow him to St Henry? I’d like to know if that was brought up in the hiring process. If so how do the juniors and seniors to be feel about that? Wouldn’t that  be kind of the same thing with the CovCath drama? I put this in the Cooper thread, but it is worth mentioning here. Any public school student that want to follow or play for Coach Sully will have to pony up close to 10K a year that they don't need to spend to go to their public school. 

Sullivan's son could be an exemption from that if he winds up teaching at St. Henry. Part of the teachers compensation is that their kids tuition is discounted(not sure how much).

Sullivan has 3 (or maybe 4 kids.... I can't remember), so even with a discount, it's going to cost some pretty good money for all his kids to go there.

The AD Borchers is taking a lot of heat and strays,  but he was neutered from the whole situation. This deal lays at the feet of the principal. Then was backed by the superintendent.  Wilson flew solo in this.  He’s a bully with honestly little care for sports.
