There's not a "release." A school can not block a transfer. When student athletes transfer, they are automatically ineligible for one calendar year from a sport if they have participated in a varsity contest. There are multiple ways to get a waiver from the KHSAA listed in the bylaws, https://khsaa.org/common_documents/handbook/bylaws.pdf

So Sully to St. Henry is pretty legit? Crazy to think his culture was wrong at Cooper but is what St. Henry is looking for. Great and ballsy move by St. Henry. I give them my applause ?. Over the next couple of years does he start to bring in the talent like he had at Cooper? There is some ballers out there that would like to play for him. If they make their way to St. Henry their football team could really benefit from it as well.

Representation for what? He still has his teaching position, coaching is a year to year position at the high school level. Coaches are not entitled to be renewed for coaching regardless of their success. If the school chooses to go a different direction they don’t have to have a reason to make a change for the next season other than we don’t want you back. I’m not saying this is correct in this situation as Sullivan is a top ten coach in the Bluegrass. I’m just stating in regards to the comment of does he not have representation in this situation.  
 

See Covington Catholic last year. 

For someone like me, a union employee, we are allowed to have representation anytime we have to meet with someone in power. That's why I asked. I don't know how the public school system works.

I think representation would matter if this was pertaining to full-time employment but since this is an "extra duty" responsibility that is basically "at will" there's not much that a union could cover in that situation.

I was told some form of a “district HR personnel” was also in attendance at said meeting with the Super. Maybe that qualifies? Or maybe that’s just another witness to the meeting that took place for legality reasons?

It's crazy how many don't know this. The schools just fill out the paper work. There is no blocking or waiving a transfer by a school.
