There are probably 5-10 kids on O-Cath each year that could start for OHS and make them better. Owensboro CLEARLY has an issue that handicaps them that the BG area does not. You may think it’s coaching, but I would strongly state that it is the split that O-Cath causes. 

Also worth mentioning, there are about 21k students in WCPS/BGISD v. 14k students in DCS/OISD. That’s pretty significant. Some have said the two areas are relatively the same size. 

All this is to say, for OHS to pull Brandon Smith from SW, they would have to make a pretty dramatic paradigm shift in terms of their commitment as a district to football. I don’t see that happening. 

I agree this might be more of an issue than coaching itself. I truly believe if Atwell, Carrico and Crowe were at OHS along with a few OC linemen. Red Devils probably win state in 5A even with Fallin as the HC. 

I feel like this is the most important hire for us here at Owensboro then any other hire in the last 25-30 years maybe longer.

Any insight on who they have interviewed or true potential candidates?  And I know there are rumors but looking to see what the word is down there on Frederica is.

If you put those players on a lot of teams, they would become contenders!

Are the Kevin Wallace talks a reality with all the drama coming out of St X in the last 48 hours?

Coach Hall is the only inside hire I could see being given the keys to the program. He was a stand out Red Devil player and has been a loyal assistant coach for yeeeaars. Truthfully he’s earned it. But with so many kids leaving the program recently I’m not sure this hire stays in house. If Hall doesn’t get it and several of the names listed apply then I think Wallace or Rector would be amazing gets. Someone mentioned Clevenger at Somerset (formerly Danville and Henderson). He would be a great get too if he was interested.

Clay Clevenger was head coach at Henderson County from 2007-12. He posted a 45-27 record, four times winning 9 games and twice advancing to the quarterfinals in Class 6A. I'm guessing his name came up because of Owensboro's proximity to Henderson County.
