I don't think it's tough to make a case that Senior has a good shot at making a real run at the 5A title in the next couple of years. What about after that, though, like once their current bounty of talent has graduated? And as a metropolitan area, Louisville, Lexington, Bowling Green, and Covington/Newport/Bellevue are all larger than Owensboro, so that's fighting against them in terms of Senior drawing a coach away from a successful program in one of those areas. Senior also does have Catholic to compete with for athletes. Not saying Senior is losing large numbers by actual transfer, but to not acknowledge that having a program just across town that's competed in the state finals for 2 straight years is competition for your program's athletic draw is to have your head buried in the sand.

Does Senior have enough going on to make someone like Brandon Smith who is already set up with a working system in a state championship winning program want to scrap what he's got, likely lose all but maybe a couple of their assistants by leaving their current program, move their family to a new city, figure out if they do or don't like the existing coaching staff at the new program and learn how to work with them, and start all over new?

They’ve been semis 5 straight be this year.  They will be in the hunt every year with Wallace or Smith.  Too much talent all the time.

This is a really fun thread and perfect for the off season!

But as others have said above, it is CRITICAL for Owensboro's path forward to make a positive choice here and I think that likely has to be an outside hire.

As someone who has lived in both BG and Owensboro, I can tell you they are no where close to similar.  I found myself having to drive to Evansville regularly to do things that BG has to offer.

Eville is about 35-40 minutes away - another good selling point for Owensboro.  115 k in Evansville, 61k in Owensboro and 75k in BG.

I'm not sure of the exact numbers, but the football program was down to like 30 players Edge's last year. No one wants to play for him. Morris took a dumpster fire and turned it back into a consistent winner. His first couple of years (down years) were the direct result of where the program was heading under Edge. If Owensboro hires him, they'll be looking for a new coach within 5 years.

Edge had 130 wins in 13 years at Owensboro Catholic and 3 state championship runners-up. I would hardly call this a dumpster fire.

As a Red Devil fan, I would love to have someone that will continue what Coach Fallin did in regards to recruiting. Crowe had an offer from Illinois State before he transferred to Owensboro Catholic then all the sudden he had no more offers. Evan Hampton recruitment is still blowing up as a result of Jay Fallin. Look at Gavin Wimsatt and Tinsley now is leaving for the draft. We need someone here that can get these kids recruited and playing at the next level. Fallin probably could of helped Atwell get offers from Power 5 schools is Atwell was at Owensboro. 

This hire is our most important hire since Joe Prince was hired in 2003. The program is at a huge crossroads and we need a good hire. We need to hire someone with NO Owensboro ties and let him do his job and hopefully he has some connections with college coaches.

That’s what hiring Kevin Wallace or even Brian Rector would bring you! Two guys with connections at the highest level of college football! I’m curious of everyone’s thoughts on Rector! I have it on high regard that he has indeed applied and is extremely interested in the job? His record at Father Ryan isn’t great but he is an Owensboro native and I think he could potentially be an interesting hire!
