Kevin Wallace would be a great hire for us. Catholic, Apollo and DC won't come close to us after his first year. What do we have to do to get Wallace? He always had good sound teams in Bowling Green.

I’m not sure what it would take I have heard he’s applied for the job but apparently folks think I’m crazy for saying that! If however that’s the case that’s the hire you have to make! I’m still curious about Rector though and what he could do at OHS

Just read about him. He did really well at Ravenwood winning a championship and a state runner up back to back years. Centennial he had a good run and got kids recruited. I believe Tyrel Dodson was still playing in the league a few years ago. Father Ryan he still had success but I would love to see him at Owensboro too. 

If Owensboro just interviews these two candidates I don't think we can go wrong. They will get us back in the right direction and we will take over the city again.

That's interesting but could see it. It'd look very odd seeing him with a red O on his gameday polo.

That is a good point, but again driving 35-40 minuets for amenities that BG already has does not help the case for pulling Brandon Smith away.

Again, I’m not sure which “Amenities” you are looking for.  I’ve been to the BG mall - it’s not that great.  Is it better shopping than Owensboro, yes some stores.  I would guess most serious shoppers in BG and O go to Nashville (Opry Mills), Evansville or maybe even shop in Louisville and Lexington when they are there.  Restaurants very similar.   Minor league ball in Evansville.  Not sure what else there is to do - BG is growing way faster and who knows, but you’re an hour from BG for God sakes.  As much as having WKU would be fun, I’ve never went to a WKU football or basketball game despite my daughter attending.

Chris McNamee had four straight 4-7 seasons at Pike County Central before taking the Pikeville job back some years ago. They've (Pikeville) done alright since.

The late, great Ty Scroggins had one winning season in three years at Doss and no playoff wins before taking the reigns to Louisville Central in 2007.

Hunter Cantwell went 4-6, 4-7, 7-5 in 3 years at Carroll County before landing the CAL job.

Then, again, Kevin Wallace, like I mentioned in a previous post his first 10 years as a HC while at Warren East in the 80's & early 90's? NEVER had a winning season. NEVER won a playoff game + a career record to that point of around 20 games below .500

There are a whole lot of very, very, very average to below average programs in Kentucky. As proven above (and, there are others who have been able to land GOOD jobs, despite their "lack of success" at previous stops)...winning in and around a handful of games + losing seasons at some of these places are truly magical displays of coaching in their own right.

Coach Rector has a pretty solid resume, if you ask me.

Ravenwood High School started its football program in 2002 with former Brentwood Academy head coach Jack Daniels at the helm, with an agreement for Brian Rector to serve as his understudy for two years before taking over as head coach in 2004. They were 4-3 in a first JV-only season, and in 2003 they finished their first varsity season with a 3-7 record. Coach Rector took over the football program in 2004 and led them to an 8-4 finish in the second round of the DI-5A playoffs that yead. Then in 2005 the team won the DI-5A championship, followed by a losing trip to the DI-5A state finals in 2006.

After 5 seasons as head coach at Ravenwood, Rector left for 2 seasons to serve on David Elson's coaching staff as a graduate assistant at Western Kentucky University. He returned to prep football coaching the next year taking over at Centennial high school in Franklin, TN. When he took over at Centennial in 2011, they only had one winning season and a combined 19-43 record in the previous 6 season. He had a winning season in his first year, by his 4th year he improved the team's season record to 10-3, and in his last year at Centennial he took the team to the DI-5A state semifinals.

Rector took over at Father Ryan in Nashville for the 2016 season at which point the Fighting Irish football program only had 3 total winning seasons in the previous 16 seasons. Under Coach Rector they had winning seasons in his last 5 seasons as head coach. Tennessee football is split into 2 division, with all public schools competing in the six-class Division I and all private schools competing in the three-class Division II, so postseason play in Tennessee for private schools in the DII brackets can be a lot tougher with the amount of variance you see between the schools since they're only split into 3 classes.

@Brown I think the football team's lack of success in the decade-and-a-half prior to Rector showing up at Father Ryan adds a lot of perspective to his tenure there. I also think the fact that that was his first delve into coaching at a private school is a legitimate point to be made about how things went for him there. Coaching at a private school is a significantly different animal than coaching at a public school. He had well-defined success at public schools, and he definitely took the Father Ryan program in a positive direction compared to where they had been. If anything, I would think Rector's tenure at Father Ryan proves that (1) he can adapt himself to new environments and still change things for a positive result, and (2) he's shown that he is the kind of coach who is willing to keep grinding away at something to eventually get things straightened out and rather than packing it in and heading elsewhere after a few tough seasons. And he'll be coming into Owensboro with a program that's loaded with talent and track record, both, so I don't see anything about his resume that makes me think he would squander that. PLUS he has the all-around uncommon trait of having a state championship win on his resume (plus a state runner-up trophy, plus college football connections to help his players garner more college recruiting attention.)

The point @Colonels_Wear_Blue and I are trying to make is that it's often times the program and not the coach(es)- after all, there are many reasons why so many of these places are revolving doors every few years or less on the "Open Jobs" thread.

If you win any at all...any winning seasons...any amount of district title(s) or region title(s) at soooo many places? That/those alone are enough to prove that a guy(s) can coach. 

Beechwood's new head coach won 4 games in two years at an Ohio perrenial doormat. Two years on the job at Beechwood and he's become the next HFC to lead them to a state title. The administration there knew that & knew the guy could coach despite a resume that many would consider "less than impressive".

@Brown, I'm not against you, but I think Coach Rector is a dang good coach.  He may not be your guy.  No problem but having to face Ensworth and Brentwood Academy and McCalley every single year and in the playoffs is a level above KY 5A football most years.

I think I'm gonna have to agree to disagree with you there.

Ravenwood:
It was a brand new program that he took to the mountaintop...and new programs are anything but stable. 4 winning seasons out of 5, including two trips to the state finals and with one taking home the hardware. Successful coaching stint, yes?

Centennial:
Struggling program prior to his arrival. 1 winning season in the prior 6 years. Then they had a winning season in his first year, followed by two 5-5 seasons, then a trip to the quarterfinals, then a trip to the semifinals. Successful coaching stint, yes?

Father Ryan:
Rector had never coached private school football before. They were undoubtedly a struggling football program with 3 winning seasons in the previous 16. He had to get his feet under him in his new digs, yes, and yes it did take 4 years for him to do that, but then he delivered 3 winning seasons in 5 years. Tough to argue that he didn't improving the state of the union for Father Ryan's football program. Isn't that a successful coaching stint?

BG has a minor league team that is actually affiliated with MLB unlike the team in Evansville.  The restaurants in Owensboro are all chain restaurants.  O just got a Chili's, while BG's Chili's went out of business.   I have not met a single person that has lived in both O and BG that preferred O over it.  While O is a nice town with plenty to do, I just believe that the town/community would be a huge factor in getting a hire like Wallace and Smith to leave where they currently are.  Maybe I am wrong.  Can you imagine that O vs. BG game next year in Rash if Wallace is at the wheel?  Give me the popcorn now!!!  I am just being real, as I do not see it happening.

Cantwell was at Carroll County for 2 years, 2016 & 2017. He went 4-7 & 7-5 during those seasons.
