I would put Union County coach Derek Johns high on the call list.

Here is the facts about KYHSFB. IMVHO, there are a lot more good coaches than there are programs.   ...know what? Scratch that. The number of bad programs is the vast majority. I have a

Brandon Smith would be my first call.

I have a hard time believing Owensboro is a better job than South Warren.

I believe the point was that SW is moving to 6A. South Warren in 6A or Owensboro in 5A, which is the “better” job? My outlook would be wanting to cement my name and win 6A with SW but I most certainly could see the appeal of moving to Owensboro. In my opinion, Rash is a far more exciting environment/atmosphere than SW. Plus you get to join an incredibly aged rivalry of BG/OHS.

Regardless, coaching at OHS would be a ton of fun and exciting.

@00Tyler10 Didn’t mean for it to be a jab at Owensboro, think that’s one of the better jobs in the State; just don’t know why you would even bother reaching out. I don’t see what they have to offer that the Spartans cannot, fantastic support on Friday nights at Rash sure but when you start peeling back the curtain no doubt in my mind South Warren has better everything from technology to weight room and whatever else you want to mention. He’s won Championships at South, he’s well compensated and like you mentioned the task of taking on 6A is giving him an opportunity to win at 3 different levels. I’m not sure who Owensboro should go after but I wouldn’t waste my time calling Coach Smith.

Any chance the Owensboro Catholic coach would go for it? Bump up from 2A to 5A.

Hmmmmm interesting. Isn’t he the AD at Catholic? I highly doubt it but his pay would increase drastically.

Do they hire within or do they go "outside the box" so to speak?

I think that is the real question.  If they decide to go "within", then don't you think an announcement would come pretty soon?

Better technology??  Weight Room?  I would assume Owensboro has very adequate facilities.   Beautiful new turf field (I’m not sure SW has that yet - I thought they were grass).  I’m sure there is plenty of money either place and they would come out of the woodwork to help at O if Smith came.  Last year Owensboro throttled South Warren 53-22 or something close.  I think Smith probably wonders if he will like getting a top Louisville team in the semi’s or before each year.  West KY 6A is weak, so it would either be easy games or very difficult.  With the talent at Owensboro (I know South has plenty too), he could make a run on championships with his ability.  That choice is up to him and the AD at O.  I hope it would be Wallace or Smith personally.  If not, give me Edge from Apollo - He is the guy who SHAPED Ocath’s program into a state power.  No way I go assistant coach right now.  You have one of the best back’s in the nation in Hampton and a D1 guy in Ashley taking over at QB.  Perfect timing.

If you asked me to predict today I’d say it will be Kevin Wallace!

SW is inline to get a turf field in the very near future and just built a multimillion dollar indoor turfed facility. They have big time donors that make sure they are well taken care of.  I have a hard time believing Smith or Wallace have interest in leaving cities like BG or Louisville for a town such as Owensboro.  Just my opinion.  I do hope that O gets a great coach, as it would be good for the program and community.  Just not sure with the dominance of BG year in and year out that it is going to draw huge names like it used to.  Maybe I am completely wrong, but again this is what I believe to be true.

Do you go after Morris at O Cath?

South Warren just put up a multimillion dollar facility, grass/turf argument is dependent on who you ask but I believe it should be coming, they’re the only county school without it yet the newest of the four. Technology in the sense of film/meeting rooms, and in the weight room they have the ability to maximize their production thanks to some people who have money to spare and enjoy the program. I’m sure OB can give him similar things but one lone win against the Spartans that happened to be last year sure is meaningless when you compare the Championships, Smith is South Warren football and will continue to be, and in my opinion they have a team that is built to compete in 6A ball. Wallace wouldn’t dare go out there either, left BG for X, why in the world would he downgrade at this point in his coaching career? Whoever they end up getting will be a happy camper because like you mentioned the talent is rich, just don’t see any reason why those two guys would go further West.

That’s funny cause word on the street is Wallace sent his resume and has officially applied for the job!

What’s funnier is he’s a retired teacher from the Public Schools (a pension) while also getting well compensated to coach football at one of the most prestigious schools in our State. If you want to look anywhere travel a little bit south to TN, maybe an old face who took Ravenwood to a State Championship will pop into OB.
