I don't know what to expect either so same on LCA and OC.  On Beechwood, I wasn't surprised.

You guys have dominated Beechwood like Danville has dominated you. I do think Mayfield has taken the place of Pikeville Beechwood’s biggest rival iwhen they were in Class A.

I have been very impressed with Mayfield's elevated play the last three weeks.  I felt like they were sleep walking thru the back half of their schedule, and to see them crank it up the way they have gives me confidence that they can handle anything coming their way if they stay the course and keep playing with the same level of intensity.  They certainly have more offensive balance than OC.  And from what few highlights I've seen of the Aces, I feel like Mayfield will have an edge on the LOS.

I don't know what to think of OC.  Schedule is lacking, but again there were no close calls.  And if I had to pick the most dangerous offensive weapon in high school football it would be a dual threat quarterback.  Atwell looks the part.  He has complementary pieces.  They obviously play good team ball.  And at this point, all it takes is one good game to seal the deal.  Can they keep doing what they have done all season while playing the toughest opponent they have played yet?

Going to be fun to see how this one plays out!

Maybe go back and give the Owensboro score a second look.  That was a game the Red Devils could have certainly won.

We only beat the Ads one time, 2002 at their place in the semis enroute to a state championship. 
 

Back on topic though. Even though OC outscored Hendo by 6 more than the Cards did, the difference in yardage was exactly the same. Had MHS not knelt on the ball at the end, they could have outscored them by more and would surely have outgained them by more.

Catholic knelt at the end as well. But they ran forward 15 yards each time before kneeling, so they could make sure they'd tie Mayfield's yardage total. 

The last time the Cards went into the state championships against an undefeated team that had a running qb and was favored, that I can remember was 2010. It didn’t go well for Hazard that day.

Bad news for OC then, since Atwell is known only as a running qb. 

We as fans fall into the trap of comparing past games from 10 weeks ago and looking at stats, etc. Past years scores are even crazier. I guess we have to have something to compare and argue about though lol. This is its own game and its for all the marbles. Mayfield is the favorite, but OC is more than capable of winning. Past games against common opponents will have nothing to do with the game.

As was Combs. If memory serves me correct, that year he led 2a in passing and was a large portion of their run game. He had a slew of receivers and a very good rb.
