Can a school's fan base cause you to root against them?

Featured Replies

This question comes from a few games I have attended where fans of some teams leave me scratching my head and wondering how does any casual fan ever root for them?

1000%

Absolutely. Now, that won’t stop me from hoping that individual players do well, or that some succeed later on, but some fan bases can be so intolerable that any success they have will guarantee you have to listen to something annoying at a higher frequency and volume.

That would be a yes!

The people on here has caused me to root against certain teams. The worst ones are the ones that just seem like it’s a ridiculous thought that their team might lose.

Yes any fan base that roots against the Breds is an automatic enemy.

Yes, specifically schools that chant daddy's money at St. X games. Lol.

Absolutely! It also can turn around if you make a friend or personal connection to a school.

I was "Hosted" at a Somerset/New Cath game a several years ago and had a pre-game meal with several guys from up there. Completely turned me around on that school and fan base.

Another school (former district rival) that I couldn't stand, a few years after leaving our district hired a HC that I knew. I became an immediate fan, when he left, I went back to not liking them...lol.

Yes.  Pikeville.  100%

I never judge a fan base by a few. At the end of the day, we all want our teams to win.

I’m too old to be hating on high school kids because their fan base is what I consider Idiotic. I just like a good clean game with minimal penalties and maximum effort. Now I do find it easy to cheer against a team because what happens on the field during the course of a game.
