What will you do this weekend now that the crews will be from other parts of the state again? Will only rip on them if your team loses? You say it’s statewide incompetence so let’s hope you can give credit where it is due when your title game is over. Like I said if you can be so much better why not help out I. Some way to make the incompetent officials better? Yes I used to officiate and it’s guys like Kilowatt that helped to make me quit. 

I would rather get beat 400-0 than have this happen to me. I have no dog in this fight at all but when I read about this and saw the video I became physically ill.

My team didn’t lose. I’m not a Male or Ballard supporter. I was just pointing out how bad the officials were at the end of that game and it almost unfairly cost a team a trip to the state title game.

And if you quit your officiating career over a couple of comments on a message board then that’s on you.

Thank you for your service to the game. There are a few professions people believe they can do but they won’t do. Teaching, coaching and being an official are three of them. People want to complain about all three and yet they don’t want to pick up a whistle or step into a classroom. 
 

There are some unique personalities that are officials. There are some that could be better. It’s also a very difficult job. There is a reason college and pros have use of instant replay. Thank you to all the individuals that are officials and take the time so our kids can play a game.

I still can't tell with certainty that it was TD by the Male QB.  He reaches out but from the back of the end zone angle I don't see if it broke the plane before it was lost out of his hand.  The recovery clearly seems to me to be outside the goal line by about 18 inches.

Is a "forward" fumble legal in high school? In the NFL I don't believe that the other player would get credit for the TD if he recovered a forward fumble in the last seconds. 

Also, if the "forward" fumble is legal in high school, then is it a TD? In the NFL if a player has possession of the ball with any body part in the end zone, it is a TD regardless of where the ball itself is. The Male player who recovered the fumble clearly had his feet in the end zone when he recovered the Male QB's 4th down fumble.

In federation football the ball must cross the plane of the goal line. Same in NCAA and NFL. The feet are not part of the rule.

That is not true. Unless the NFL changed that rule in the last year or two and I missed it.

The reason I asked about the ball needing to break the plane is because of a play earlier this year in a Bengals game. I believe it was a Perine reception/run that he scored on. Perine stepped over the goal line with one foot next to the pylon and was hit immediately and knocked out of bounds. Gene Steratore was called in to comment and he said as long as the runner stepped into the end zone it is a TD regardless of where the ball is.

I thought like each of you the ball had to break the plane so Steratore's comment surprised me.

I don't wanna be the "you're wrong" guy, but, every level of football that I'm familiar with when it comes to crossing the plain of the endzone it is all about the ball. Ball crosses the white line and nothing else crosses, TD. Whole body of the player is in the endzone but the ball doesn't cross the white line, no TD.

If I remember that play correctly, the ball was in his outside arm so the ball was more out of bounds on the other side of the pylon. So at that point all that mattered was getting his feet in the end zone, it didn’t matter that the ball itself was out of bounds on the other side of the pylon.

Correct. The downing a punt is where the position of the feet/body matters in the NFL and not in NFHS. As long as the ball doesn't cross the line, it doesn't matter where the players body is when downing a punt under NFHS rules. So a player can have feet in the end zone, but downs the ball when it is outside of the end zone, the ball is spotted where it is touched. In the NFL, if a players feet are in the end zone and the ball isn't it is a touch back.
