That game was slightly different. There was 11 seconds left and I believe a 5-6 point lead. I agree with not taking the safety in this game. My comment was more just if you’re going to take a safety the Baltimore approach would have been a valid option. 
 

Sneak the ball best case game over. In most people’s head worse case is a safety. One thing for sure is coaches across the state will be making sure they cover this every year on O and D. 

If not for the sneak fumble, would the conversation be about whether the Male QB scored on his 4th down leap over the pile? The ball definitely crossed the goal line because it bounced off a Male player in the end zone. The question is was the ball still in the QB's hands when it crossed the goal line? No way to know for sure unless you have a goal line camera angle. The ref was right there looking at it and he marked it inches short.

The ball appeared to be knocked out by the helmet of a Ballard player who was pretty clearly in the end zone. Only thing I can think of is what you alluded to, maybe the ball was loose going across the goal line, because there's no way that ball didn't break the plane.

Looks like the video is locked down now but my last watch of it I believe a Male player recovered the fumble. His feet were in the end zone when he recovered it. Where was the ball when he gained possession? 

Is a "forward" fumble legal in high school? In the NFL I don't believe that the other player would get credit for the TD if he recovered a forward fumble in the last seconds.

In the NFL if a player has possession of the ball with any body part in the end zone, it is a TD regardless of where the ball itself is. I don't believe you can advance the ball on a fumble, but I'm not certain.

You absolutely do not take the safety intentionally.  You sneak and hope you make it out of the end zone knowing that even if pushed back the officials will more than likely rule forward motion stopped out side the end zone unless somebody shoots through.  You can take the safety but you certainly don't take it on purpose.  Only thing you can't do is what Ballard did. 

How in the world did the ball end up on the backside of the pile?  If somebody just falls on it at least you get a chance to make another goal line stand.  Just sick for Ballard.

Probably they assumed defense would key on him so deception. They did same thing against St. X by not giving to Swinney on 2pt conversion and worked. Video still showing for me.

Wow. Just saw the video of the final minute.  Crazy few plays there. Seems as though incompetent officials is a statewide thing. Which is sad.

They completely botch what down it was after the offsides call, then screw Male out of what would probably be the game winning touchdown.

But Ballard put the final game scene from “All the Right Moves” and handed the game back to Male. Unbelievable.

I was glad to see Male get the win since the officials tried to screw them. But I feel for the Ballard guys too.

Also as someone else pointed out, no one takes a safety in that scenario, at least on purpose.

Crazy sequence there.

Ok. Thanks. Maybe I have viewed the video too many times and it isn't available to me any more? Glad to hear it is still available to others.

 

Thinking about this more it’s also very impressive no official blew their whistle either. Granted it’s the state semi final game so you’re getting the best of the best, but just glad the officials didn’t get in the way of a crazy finish. 

According to Kilowatt the officials tried to screw them the entire game but the last play. Statewide issue he says as well. Kilowatt sign up and help improve the officiating situation buddy. If they truly had horrible officials that play would’ve been blown dead and Ballard skates with. A win. From the Back line angle you can make an argument Male should’ve had a TD but we don’t have the goal line angle which wouldn’t you know it the officials have. So be quiet.

Negative. That’s not what I said. The officials did screw Male down on the goal line m. They clearly scored. The official was standing right there.

Not to mention they told the down marker holder to put it at first down after the offsides penalty. Then after the play was over they said it was fourth down.

those are two major screw ups. I’m just glad it didn’t cost the team the game cause it dang near did.
