"A joke about Jada's medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally."

This is an actual picture of Will's reaction to a joke about Jada's medical condition for the first three seconds after hearing the joke. If you count off three full seconds, that is not a short amount of time.

  • Will Smith looks like the clown in this to me, and it's not because he slapped him. It's because he laughed and then, after a look of disgust from Jada, apparently got so enraged he had to walk on sta

I know getting hit by someone isn't fun, but Will actually let Rock off the hook. It was a bad joke, and in poor taste considering Jada's medical diagnosis. I think Chris would have taken a lot more flak for the joke if Will hadn't done what he did.

The whole thing seemed weird. The joke felt forced, Will's reaction was forced. Everybody seemed to be trying too hard.

Good choice for Smith as well to clear the air.  Both will look to put it behind them, but we'll see how long that takes to happen.

It's still bonkers that stuff happened.

I'm still sticking with the belief barely anyone would have noticed.

Agree completely.

I am 0 for forever when it comes to watching awards shows of any type.  Crap like this makes me 100% sure I will continue the streak for the foreseeable future.

Good statements by both and appropriate by both. The joke was not innocuous. When you have a  medical condition that you have to deal with every day that could also impact your career it is not a joking matter.  It's making fun of somebody with a disability that they can't do anything about.

As to Smith's reaction, we've all been to a comedy club. You get into laugh mode and have that smile on your face. Plus he knows the cameras are watching every second trying to catch something so you put your best face on. I think that's where Will Smith was and then as he thought about the joke it hit him.  Then the history with Chris Rock floods into mind and he's thinking not again.  And then he thinks I'm not letting him do this again. It takes a few seconds for all that to flow through your mind.  And that's when he got up and walked onto the stage.

All that said, it has been a great day for the memes and @theguru was on fire today.

Good on both guys for apologizing.

Agree.

For every one I posted I probably passed on five others.

I will say this one meme was an original thought if that makes sense and not something I saw anyone else post:

Apparently the statement from Chris Rock floating around is a fake.  His team says they haven’t issued a statement.

Maybe he will still end up issuing a statement, but I thought it was bizarre he (a comedian) would issue an apology for something on that low of a level of inappropriateness.

Right. That joke was less than mild.

If this joke is "crossing the line," we might as well pack up stand up comedy for good.

I liken it to making fun of someone in a wheelchair or muscular dystrophy. Sure, loss of hair not as tragic but it is a medical/health condition she has no ability to change.
