Will Smith was asked to leave the Oscars but refused.

The Academy is currently holding a disciplinary hearing.

At the same time, Chris Rock on stage in Boston with his stand up comedy act. Will he comment on it?

Well in my mind, that sure voids any apology he tried to offer in his speech.

I wonder when they asked him to leave? Before or after his acceptance speech?

Asked to leave?  LOL  How about tell him to leave and if he refused involve the police where it would either be leave or go to jail.  And if the Oscars asked him to leave and he refused, why allow him to receive his award?  To me, this whole "asked to leave thing" and how it turned out shines a negative light on the Oscars more than Will Smith.

  • Will Smith looks like the clown in this to me, and it's not because he slapped him. It's because he laughed and then, after a look of disgust from Jada, apparently got so enraged he had to walk on sta

  • The Oscars was just the culmination of her making him look like a fool for years.

By not giving him the boot, it effectively signed off on his behavior.

Roman Polanski drugged and raped underage girls. He was convicted, fled the US and is still a fugitive today. After that conviction he has made many movies, been nominated by the Academy for Oscars and won an Oscar for Best Director in 2002. He could not attend obviously but received a standing ovation from the audience. He has his Oscar.

Is the Academy going to take Smith's Oscar for slapping Chris Rock and yelling an expletive that many people now use daily in their language?

More news on the incident. The president of the Academy said the police were going to arrest Will Smith immediately and Chris Rock told them not to.

I would have mailed it to Smith but yeah the Academy is despicable.

Something unusual in that? Do the police usually ask the victim in battery if they want to press charges?

There is no such thing as battery in Kentucky (it would be assault or harassment) but that is beside the point.  On one hand, if two people get in a minor fight and neither one of them wants to pursue it in court or officially report it, then probably nothing happens.  On the other hand, this was a public event that was disrupted when a crime was committed and in a case like that I think Smith should have been immediately arrested and then it becomes California vs. Will Smith and technically Chris Rock would not be needed in the case.

Thanks. As you said, beside the point, but they specifically said battery in this situation so I assume CA does have a battery law.

I didn't mean to be argumentative, I was trying to apply it to Kentucky for our audience.  Here you go:

California Penal Code Section 242: Battery is defined as "any willful and unlawful use of force or violence upon the person of another." It is important to note that an individual may be charged with battery even if there is no injury.

Kentucky Revised Statues 525.070: Harassment, a person is guilty of harassment when, with intent to intimidate, harass, annoy, or alarm another person, he or she strikes, shoves, kicks, or otherwise subjects him to physical contact.

*Tin Foil hat alert*

This still, to me (who didn't watch), feels staged.  Talk for 364 days was how do we increase viewership for the Oscars.    No one cares anymore.    Well, people are talking now.

Talking and viewership are two different things. The "slap" would have had zero impact on viewership of this year's show, and will be old news by the time next year's show rolls around. And I can't see either Rock or Smith signing off on their "roles" in this if it were staged. Just imaging that conversation....The Academy calling up Will and Chris and saying, "Hey, since viewership is down, we have this idea to boost ratings of future shows, and we'd like your help.....here's what we'd like you to do....."

I know conspiracies are fun to talk about, but in most cases, they just don't make sense if you really think about it.
