Will Smith and Chris Rock at the Oscars

Talking and viewership are two different things. The "slap" would have had zero impact on viewership of this year's show, and will be old news by the time next year's show rolls around. And I can't see either Rock or Smith signing off on their "roles" in this if it were staged. Just imaging that conversation....The Academy calling up Will and Chris and saying, "Hey, since viewership is down, we have this idea to boost ratings of future shows, and we'd like your help.....here's what we'd like you to do....."

I know conspiracies are fun to talk about, but in most cases, they just don't make sense if you really think about it.

I’m all for a sound conspiracy theory, but this one makes no sense…. Unless it was announced Rock and Smith are appearing on stage next year to present a lifetime achievement award to Ike Turner.

I agree this one doesn't make any sense and now Will Smith has resigned from the Academy over the incident so that should erase any doubt about the slap being staged.

Will Smith was given a 10 year ban from attending the Oscars.  I think he can still receive awards but he may not attend.  I look for his sentence to be commuted at some point, probably by year five.

Also, a couple of videos from the past of Will and his wife have been making the rounds.  Man I hate to say this, but those videos make me feel a little sorry for Will.

So Dave Chappelle got attacked on stage the other night by a man with a knife while he was doing a standup routine.  Does everyone think this is a "one-off" or will we see more of these and do you think the Rock/Smith incident in any way inspired this attack?

Blows my mind that this story has been an afterthought in the news. I expected it to get a lot more publicity after the Rock/Smith ordeal.

I agree, Rock and Smith were like two guys in a bar that had a disagreement over a woman that enjoys drama, this could have been deadly.

I don't know that the Oscars incident is going to inspire and give people the idea that they can get away with attacking comics, musicians etc. It's not like it never happened before. Dimebag Darrell was shot and killed on stage by a fan in Columbus  in 2004, and Nat King Cole was attacked by a group of men way back in the 50's.  I think venues and performers just get way to comfortable over time, and eventually something like this happens. I believe artists should be questioning the venues about their security, and stop playing any place that is just not up to snuff in the safety department.

Here is a tribute to Dimebag:

More to come in all public events. Athletes, entertainers, et al should all be on high alert. It is the wild west and nothing is off limits.

Unfortunately I believe you are right.

It certainly didn't help the Smith not only got away with it, but was also shortly afterwards honored with an award as if nothing had happened.

I agree.  For someone who is mentally ill, watching what happened with Smith could easily distort your thought process in a similar situation.

The person that attacked Dave Chappelle is only going to be charged with a misdemeanor.   With that in mind, I am going to dedicate this song to all the criminals in Los Angeles.
