One of my other favorite coaches is Highlands grad in John Murray. Didn’t he go back to Highlands to coach after he left Beechwood?

I hope your program gets their guy as long as  it’s not our coach down at FC! But most of all that you guys are successful moving forward. Ky football is better when you guys are in the mix. But right now.... your treading water. 

To lose your coach to HHS only to have him decide to return sure has emboldened at least one Flyers fan !!   It may not be happening the way everyone thinks it should but I promise you HHS is not "treading water".  A "hot mess"?  Keep kicking while they're down, I don't think you'll like what happens when they get back to business. 

Highlands will get a good coach that will help lead them back to prominence.  There’s too many attractive things about the job not to.  The next coach will have support & great resources.....and he will have some talent.  I’ve seen people post that the talent isn’t there anymore or at least like it was & I’m going to disagree from the little I’ve seen/known.  If the rest of the classes are like the current freshman class (provided they all went / stayed at Highlands), they’ll be in good shape.  My son played KY Future Stars with a kid or two that played  for Highlands White & then his MS team played against Highlands Blue & they had a kid who was a real solid player; probably one of the best in NKY for his grade, Carson Class.  Highlands will be just fine & the next coach, whomever that might be, will get Highlands back to what Highlands does...winning lots of ballgames & competing for/winning championships....and it won’t make a bit of difference if he’s hired January 30th or February 20th.

Yes. John is a fantastic man and coach. He coached with Coach Dowling and the freshman staff at HHS for 3-4 years before having to step away to help care for his father. I believe he was on the staff at HHS before that too but I am not sure in what capacity.

John is still in the area boys are grown and      he was in the stands on Friday nights.  Another great guy if approached might consider helping in one form or another.  Boys sure could play the game.  I know kids like him!

I have no clue if Kevin Siple applied or not. But, I agree with you about his success and love for the Birds. I'm not 100% sure, but I think he was on the Highlands staff a few years ago for a short time. He definitely bleeds blue!

Is it a requirement by the hiring committee that the new head coach be a teacher?

I’m not close to the situation. I just know how coaching works with jobs and KY football in general. I doubt Siple applied. The last job I heard he applied for was when Carroll was open last time. Depending on who gets hired and staffing I guess there is the possibility he could end up on staff. I honestly think he is pretty happy doing what he is doing. 
 

With what’s happened at Danville things get interesting. I wouldn’t be surprised either way if he ends up at HHS. He kind of fell into their lap if either party is interested. He has won a title. He has taken a historic program that was down and got them on track. Overall it’s a very interesting turn of events with both him and the coaching search. 
 

There are a lot of places that are kind of a mess right now with off-season workouts. So hiring late isn’t that big of a deal. We don’t know if there will be spring ball. Most coaches unless local wouldn’t be able to be at out of season work due to current job and distance. The upside to all of this is kids have at least been exposed to distance learning. A coach can start exposing players to things in that manner. 

This is what makes hiring the next coach at Highlands so challenging. Clevenger seems like a great candidate. Then you look at his record and he is 12-17 over the last 3 years and he was let go from his current job. I look at his resume and it is a lot like Brian Weinrich's. How do you sell Clevenger to the Highlands community as the answer?

I agree Coach Siple and Coach Murray are great men and coaches.

I agree I think Siple is happy as well. Plus with all of his Facebook posts he’s very happy he gets to spend time with his grandkids.

He did more with less. I’m sure that won’t go over well but you can certainly sell it that way. He won a state title which is never easy. You have to have the players, coaching and some luck. You can rack up wins in a weak district and/or with favorable scheduling. Barth has the wins but then people point to no title. 
 

 

It appears he hasn’t had much administration support. Smaller school with a bigger fluctuations in talent and/or having to play young guys sooner. I’m not sure about resources and being in the same county with another top level program. Right now who else would be an easier sell?

A few things as I wake up today....

I totally agree that Clevenger would be an interesting person to have a conversation with. I totally agree with @barrel in the above synopsis.

@Sweeperboy also got me excited dropping all those names of potential people in the area with Highlands and coaching ties.  

The most intriguing one is Mr. Tom Spritzky, you know me with my Reds analogies, I would put him to the equivalent to when the Reds brought on Jack McKeon in 1997 - 2000.  Here was an old vet that probably would have been happy in retirement but still had a spark to fire up a young talented group of hungry players.  I was always a fan watching his Dixie teams.  I also think he would be like the "pepto bismol" solution to this uneasy time.  I don't think he would be your guy that would want the gig for more than say 5 years, but dangit he could give you a great 5 years before we have to do this again but do it right.  

At the very least I think we just drummed up a lot of good quality football people to have in discussion to fill the staffing positions once the HC is hired.

Onto Flyguy, I am with Sweeperboy....We will get this right at the end of the day and when we do, Lets Roll!!!  #BEATCOLONELS #BEAT EDDIES

I realize we are talking about a Freshmen but you are spot on with Carson, he will be a stud if he continues his trend line.  For anyone that has never seen Carson I would equate him to the body type and mentality of a Brycen Huddleston.  He has a very bright future!!!
