Wow. As a community member never really viewed that position that way. Just kind of figured the football coach was an employee of the Fort Thomas Independent School District who taught and coached. They have some outstanding folks as coaches of men's and women's sports and always have. Their academic programs are very good and far reaching and they provide very nice opportunities for the young people enrolled in the system. The majority of the kids have little to no contact with that person on a daily basis. Many folks in the community never will either.

Yeah, that statement was meant as a little joke.  The amount of support at Highlands would be almost overwhelming compared to now.  I was not however joking that I think it would be a good fit.  With the right staff I think he would be successful from the get go. 

The football program at any school has a much broader reach than any other sport. And so does the coach. How many kids play basketball, baseball and soccer? Combined, probably as many as just football. Now factor in the FTJFL, which should be under the thumb of the HC, and you have another 250 kids. There’s no question the head football coach is the most influential.

The stakeholders involved do not have the power to let anything happen or not happen. The principal hires and fires. 

But the school board (community) hires the super, and the super hires and fires the principal. And guess who’s super just retired?

In 2005 the CCH hiring committee recommended to principal Clines not to hire John Rodenberg. As Coach Ray put it, "If you hire him, he's just going to move on down the road the next time he sees something bigger and better." Clines went against the recommendation of the hiring committee and hired Rodenberg. We won state in Rody's second year, and then like Coach Ray said, he moved on down the road for something he saw as bigger and better, a door into the GCL. Then we were back searching for a coach again.

Clines was a non-football guy. Coached track a couple of years if memory serves. Turns out the decision on the football coaching hire was his exclusively. That was also a hire that effected the school, community and the kids just like the HHS job does.

I hope for the sake of the Birds that Bertasso listens to the input of the right people here, but to think that there's never been a principal who likes to flex their principal muscles and make the call that they want even if it goes against popular opinion, well, you're mistaken.

Well, look at it this way, how many people could name the Superintendent or Principal at HHS that are from outside the community? How many people could name the HHS Football Coach from around Greater Cincy/NKY and in the state of Ky? Many more would know the name of the HHS coach, especially back when it was Dale Mueller at the helm.  It’s a high profile gig whether people want to accept that fact or not. Certainty the most high profile position in the School district.

Very likely what happened when BW told team he was not coming back.  People want kids and impacted parties to hear it before spreading on social media.  Could also have a similar thing that happened with the AD job and don’t want a repeat of that.
