I seem to recall another school in Campbell County getting "scooped" on the coach announcement not too terribly long ago. They came out and said, "He is not our coach"...only to announce a couple of days later that he was the coach.

Maybe that isn't the case here. Or maybe it is.

I think Clevenger would be a good hire. Winning guy, winning attitude and gets a lot out of the talent he has.  Not sure how he would handle the support he would get up there.  From one extreme to the other. 

It would be a big loss for Danville to lose Clevenger but I'm not shocked he is rumored to have applied or be interested.

Make no mistake, this selection is being made by Matt Bertasso and only Matt Bertasso. The committee is nothing more than a façade of blame for if his selection doesn't get it done.

I think getting more support for the program would be why Clevenger would think about leaving Danville.  Danville's BOE cut money for the team/weight room last year IIRC, creating frustrations in the wider community.  There was a pretty raucous board meeting about the cuts.  I'd hate to see him go, but I wouldn't blame him at all for seeking a better opportunity.

Isn’t the principal the person that makes the hire?  The committee does not make the hire, they simply give a recommendation.  And who is to say the hire won’t get the job done?  IMO this is the hire that the program, the school and the community needs.

That is correct per KY School Law....makes rec to superintendent.

Yes, the principal hires and fires by law. Nobody is saying the hire won't get it done. Maybe they will, maybe they won't. If the hire gets it done, Bertasso will accept the credit. If the hire doesn't get it done, Bertasso will blame the committee.

I don’t believe this for one second. Bertasso will absolutely make the hire and deal directly with the candidate, but everyone in town knows this will not be his decision exclusively. There is way too much at stake for all stakeholders involved to let one Non-football person make that decision. This is a hire that will effect the School, Community, and the kids in more ways than just wins and losses. For good or bad, the HHS football Coach is viewed at as more than just a  Teacher and Coach, but as a Community leader as well and they have to understand that if they want to be successful.
