I think a lot of people disagree but I understand your argument, you simply don’t think they can be what they were under Dale, that those days are over.  That could be true, but I think the fall is too far.  Highlands should still be able to compete.

I’m not saying they can NEVER be that again, they just aren’t right now, and it’s not solely  because of coaching. Some refuse to acknowledge that they simply do not have the talent in the program that they are used to. Maybe it’s because their kids are playing, I don’t know. Anybody watching Highlands the last several seasons without a bias toward BW can see it.

We’re coming up on 10 years removed from Dale.  That’s a pretty big sample size of his successor and the overall state of the program, nearly a decade later.

Well like I’ve said before... If the talent is there, it should be an instant turnaround for the next guy. That’s the positive for the Highlands faithful. 

I don't think the talent is what it used to be but on a few 3rd down and long plays Boyle walked up (didn't try to disguise it) an outside backer pass rusher and he was never picked up by anyone.  So maybe it's a little of both.  Not as much talent and not quite as good a staff as it used to be.  

I'll flip the talent conversation around with this. How does a program win consistently for 60 years and then it stops? Does anyone really think that the talent suddenly disappears? There is talent in Ft Thomas just like there has been for 60 years. It may not be national ranked level talent but it is enough talent to consistently be a contender and there certainly is enough talent to not have 3 win and 6 win seasons.

I think y’all are underestimating how good Boyle is and how motivated Haddix is. You have to remember he was essentially forced out of Corbin. I think he’s on a tear and trying to send a message to the state.

Maybe it’s because we had the talent but they are choosing to leave Highlands and go to other schools to play. That could be one main difference between Dale the current coaching staff.  Dale kept the homegrown talent and even had kids transfer in.

And/or playing other sports at Highlands and not playing football.

Someone mentored this very thing a few years back and was told they were looking through Blue colored Goggles. How does the talent just stop? For starters Hergott isn’t playing in Ft Mitchell. He’s told as a Freshman. If you’re the best QB option your Soph year, then you’re the starting QB. Sure he doesn’t win that game last night alone. But Buten plays if Cam’s playing in Ft Thomas and not just living there. I will say it again and after watching 2 games now on TV, HHS isn’t very good and most definitely from my perspective terribly Coached. What is that stunt call for the D lineman when they run that circle rush? The oopty oop? What YouTube video did Coach Weinrich watch to come up with that?  CCH’s film study has to be a party when they watch that. The oopty oop. Come on.

I am happy with the nice win, but I think the Rebels can play much better. They now have two weeks to get ready for that first big district game at Lexington Catholic.

From what I have observed which is limited, there is a lot of skill position talent in the Freshman class.  It is critical that they all stick with football for 4 years.  Now is that talent D1 which is what Highlands had for years on both the line and skill positions?  I am not sure of that but if you look at the amount of D1 kids during Dale's tenure to the last 10 years I would say its a big difference.  The opposite side of that is....was the coaching under Dale's tenure what allowed those players to develop into D1 kids and with that gone players are not being "coached up" and reaching their full potential.  I can't answer that but it is something I think has to be looked at when discussing talent and coaching and where things have slipped.
