Something that could be considered as good news regarding this issue... Yesterday it was announced that while recommendations will be made for reopening, it is going to be up to the individual districts to determine how they attend school in the fall. Certainly seems like a positive to me.

 

It's positive in the sense that each district can do things specific to their needs, which means there will likely be football this fall. The bad news is that with no across the board standard, you could see different start times, teams opting to start later, or not start at all, which could mean scheduling nightmares this season.

Saw that St. X updated their football calendar. Will be starting conditioning on Monday morning; I believe there are three days of conditioning and one day of virtual meetings.

Trinity also starts practice Monday.

Hopkinsville, Christian County, Trigg County all begin workouts Monday. Hopefully everything continues to go smoothly as if it does it looks like we are tentatively on pace to begin the season on time!!

Face shields on players is a bad thing. If you’ve ever coached and had to deal with visor issues you understand. They trap heat and the ones they are advertising would make it much worse. That doesn’t include what happens with rain/mud.

I've never been a fan of shields either. I believe they serve more as a fashion statement than as a piece of protective equipment.

Players like them because they look “cool”, but during games in August and September especially in FL they come off pretty quick.

Looks as if the Tennessee state of emergency has been extended through August 29th, presumably delaying the start of their fall sport's season. No official word yet on what that means.

Have to think any Kentucky school playing a Tennessee school in the first two weeks may have to seek out a new opponent. 

The best prediction for Kentucky is what neighboring states are doing. Looks like Tennessee has 3 plans, all 3 start practice Aug 30 and first game Sept 18. Differences are how many games and how the playoffs work.

 

In Florida, the FHSAA’s task force voted today to push back the first day of practice to August 10 from July 27. Nothing has officially changed as the Board or Directors will have to vote on the issue. Also, there is talk the state championship games in Florida may not be played  

When is the KHSAA providing guidance past July 12 for teams?  Have they provided any details on when a decision will be made regarding the plans for the season?

Four plans for football were discussed. Those plans are as follows:



1. If the executive order expires on Aug. 29, practice would begin on Aug. 30 with the first game on Sept. 18. All regular season schedules for schools would be replaced by the state office with a seven-week region schedule for all schools. Playoffs would be conducted as usual, but schools that do not make the playoffs would be able to play two extra games after the regular season.


2. If the executive order expires on Aug. 29, practice could begin on Aug. 30 with the first game on Sept. 18. All regular season schedules for schools would be replaced by the state office with an eight-week region schedule. The regular season would extend into Week 12 and the first-round of the playoffs would be eliminated (only region champions and runners-up would qualify). Teams that do not qualify for the playoffs would be able to play two extra games after the regular season.


3. If the executive order expires on Aug. 29, practice would begin on Aug. 30 with the first game on Sept. 18. Schools would keep their current schedule and begin play with the Week 5 game on September 18. Games scheduled against member schools for Week 3 would be played in Week 12. Games scheduled against member schools for Week 4 would be played in Week 13. Only region champions would advance to the playoffs beginning in Week 14. Schools that do not qualify for the playoffs would be able to play one extra game.


4. Cancel playoffs and championships. Start practice on August 30. Schools play games as scheduled beginning with Week 5 games on September 18. Move games against member schools from Weeks 1-4 to Weeks 12-15.


The Board will meet again on July 8 to make a decision regarding football.

Tennessee athletic association HAS JUST NOW started dialogue with their State to get an exception that NFL & College teams have in the state that would allow them to begin on time as scheduled. 
 

Can’t believe they haven’t been in constant communication before now. Situation seems fluid in Tennessee. I don’t see how what they are doing affects Kentucky besides scheduling quirks, our COVID numbers are no where close to each other in terms of daily cases.
