First Week of Playoffs -- A waste of time or what?

I have no problem with the four teams going, but sure don't like the change to playing your own district in the first two rounds.

If they keep the playoffs the way they are for this yr, playing inside your own dist, then they should go back to just the top two teams. I would bet if you go back and check, the 1/2 seeds in the dist usually comes out. Not very often does the 3/4 seed go too far, occassionally maybe.

It is great to give everyone a chance but that gets financially difficult for some schools and it is just not worth driving 2/3 hrs on a bus to get your brains beat out(old playoffs). What about the dist that only have 4 teams. I know next yr in our dist there will only be 4, what a joke! Like I said, if you don't make it work harder next yr. Maybe not making it would give your teams an incentive to work harder.

I just saw where Bishop Brossart is going to play district football next year. I'm sure they will struggle, but glad to have them in the district. I still our district is the toughest 1A district in the state.

:thumb: I agree completely.

There will be some pretty good first round match-ups, for example possibly Franklin County at East Jessamine. The problem will be next year when almost every team in the state makes the playoffs. With the smaller districts and more teams making the playoffs then first round match-ups will result in more blow-outs.

Talk about a potential first round matchup: If Harrison can get by Franklin on Friday, then Franklin Co. will get a rematch with Lexington Catholic in the first round. I know Franklin will have not played up to thier potential if they loose to East Jess. and Harrison, but they did play Lexington Catholic close.

And last year, didn't Apollo defeat the one seed as a four in the first round?

Only take the top 2 seed, huh?

Sheldon Clark Cardinals:

-2A District 8

- 8-1 Record

-#6 in AP Poll

-#7 in Bluegrasspreps.com Poll

-Legit state title contender in a wide open class

- Romped the best team defending state champion Russell has defeated as well (3A Boyd County)

- 3 SEED

Do all of you suggest this team be excluded from the playoffs because of an overtime loss in muddy conditions against their rival Pburg?

If you're going to go like that.. Why even have a playoff's? Give the #1 team the title every year.

I like it when teams get to take their games on the road to face cross district competition prior to the regionals and finals.

I see no problem with the 3rd and 4th seeds being included.

Its definitely not a waste in NKY 1A and 4A.

:thumb: I liked the idea of new opponents. It just adds more excitement to the playoffs IMHO.

Actually, one of the best playoff games I ever witnessed was between 4A Scott County (#1 seed R4D7) and North Laurel (#4 seed R4D8) 2 seasons ago. North Laurel had the lead and just about pulled off this upset. I have no problem with the current 1-4 seeds making it to the playoffs. However, I don't agree with the new alignment and over 80% of the teams making it starting next season, but that's another topic.

No, not a wasted of time, there always could be upsets in the first round, reason why they play the games.

Not a waste of time at all, anything can happen you have to line up and play it to find out what will happen.

Its not a waste of time at all. Sure there are some ugly first round games. However, there have been some shocking first round upsets. Someone already mentioned Bourbon County's run to the state final. In 1999 Somerset was the number 4 seed in the district, upset Bardstown in the first round then upset Campbellsville and Danville to make it to the state semi-finals before losing to Hancock Co. That same year Bullitt East upset Southwestern in the first round and also made a run to the state semi-finals before losing. There have been a few times over the last several years, particularly in the match up between Boyle/Southwestern/Pulaski's district and the Bullitt/Waggener/Central district where the 3 seeds have won. I know a three years ago Southwestern upset Central as a 3 seed, and two years ago Bullitt East beat Southwestern as a 3 seed. I'm sure there are more throughout the state but those are some games locally that come to mind.

It's all about the kids, not the adults on the sidelines. The more these kids get to play the better.
