Is the map on KHSAA the proposed new districts? If so, there are some strange placements!

That has to be a a work in progress. Too many weird districts. In the couple classes I looked at, the weird districts appear to include schools changing class. I think they are just plugging in the new schools on the map and will figure it out as things develop.

Is there a better way of looking at that? I can’t tell who is proposed in what district. Do they included School that dropped from district play?

Is Fred Douglas really going to have 4A numbers. They currently play 6A I think. So wouldn’t their numbers increase as the school gets the next year or 2 under their belt? School isn’t splitting it’s new evidentially with 6A numbers now. This one out of all of the schools is strange to me. Anybody got any ideas or understanding on that situation?

I don’t believe Mercer is in a district without Boyle, and our new district includes Pendleton, Russell (Flatwoods) , Fleming, Mason & Lewis.... & Taylor County.

 

Can you imagine the travel for Taylor Co. to Flatwoods???

I'm going to assume it's because it's averaged out by class, so it being a new school and only having 55 boys in it's senior class, with 186 in it's freshman class, 138 in Sophmore Class. Technically gives it a low 4 year average. By the time those Freshman are Seniors it'll have a true 6A population.

Very odd. I'm guessing they'll get bumped up after two years due to the 10% rule (same thing happened to Moore and South Warren before the 2017 season), but 2019-20 are going to be two good years to be at Frederick Douglass!

If a team does elect to play up, the lowest enrollment average school in the higher class would be given an option to go to the lower class. That procedure would be repeated a maximum of three times.

I agree, Boyle and Mercer’s projected districts that are online now absolutely make no sense geographically for any of the teams involved.

I'm assuming all of the NKY 5A teams will be in the same district.

 

Boone County, Conner, Cooper, Covington Catholic, Highlands

 

This may be a relatively competitive district if that is the case.

“Now a question could be asked, since some people wondered if CovCath could have played with Trinity. Since enrollment will put CovCath in 5A. Would CovCath consider moving up to 6A to challenge themselves even more with the program they are building? Or will they like to try to sustain success for a few more years before maybe considering that?”

 

Well if 32 teams per class, CovCath would be the smallest school in 5A. This list has more than 32 in 5A so still in bottom third.

At 64th in-size, CovCath still almost one third the students of Trinity so not moving up.

I take that to mean that the three smallest schools in each class on the above document would have the opportunity to move down IF school requested to play up. Anyone larger than the three smallest will remain in their allotted class unless they themselves choose to play up.

 

Therefore, these schools would appear to potentially be able to drop down, based solely on the decisions of the schools in the class below them:

 

2A to 1A - Bracken County, Betsy Layne, Middlesboro

3A to 2A - Morgan County, Webster County, Magoffin County

4A to 3A - Rockcastle County, Ashland, Bourbon County

5A to 4A - Anderson County, Hopkinsville, Logan County

6A to 5A - Marshall County, Muhlenberg County, Southern

 

Of course those schools also have the right to remain in the class they are in. Should be interesting to see who requests to move up in the coming weeks.

 

I hope that Middlesboro gets to move down to 1A as that should help them to rebuild their program. They cannot compete with the teams that are currently in their district(Danville, Somerset and LCA).
