How would you handle the protests?

It doesn't change the fact that he chose to disrespect the flag to get this message across in his own words. So I don't want to hear anyone tell me this isn't about disrespecting the flag. He doesn't feel like the flag or country deserves to be honored . Which is his right but I'm not going to agree with it.

Let's suppose that we move past whether or not it was the right or wrong approach for him to present his opposition and concerns, and the fact that so many are divided on whether or not it was the right or wrong approach, and just what was the message of that approach was, and discuss whether or not there is any merit to the opposition and concerns that he has.

We seem to be caught up in hanging on to all of that when perhaps it's time to move beyond all of that and face head on the core of the topic regarding his concerns.

Do you think that there's any merit to his concerns, and that they are now worthy of honest and serious discussion?

But what discussion ? The side that is protesting you either agree with all their points or you are racist. No one really wants a discussion they want you to agree with their entire agenda. Dare to push back on any point you are a racist or don't get it.

If what you're saying is a true concern of people feeling that they're being falsely painted as being a racist, then along with facing head on the discussion of racism, we need also face head on the concerns of those who feel that they are being falsely painted as being racist.

It's really about all sides listening to each other with the hopes of coming to common ground and understanding.

It's no doubt difficult when folks feel that they are at an impasse, and time and again we see that an impasse is often the case, yet to gain any ground for the betterment of all there's going to have to be grave attempts at compromise, mutual respect, maturity, objectivity, rationality, sensibility, diplomacy, and fairness.

Shutting it down out of paranoia that it's not gonna go all your way, or the assumption that it's only meant to be one sided is contributing exactly that to the efforts of understanding that has you having reservations about even trying to begin with.

No one ever said that it was going to be easy, or even perfect, but ignoring it isn't the solution either. We're really going to have to try.

When one side quits with identity politics and quits labeling people who disagree conversation can start. I've been down this road a dozen times on this site and have never been afraid to discuss any topic.

In a country now where people protest people like Ben Shapiro and call him Nazi or write articles calling Tucker Carlson a white supremacist It's hard to have dialogue. We are at a point where just disagreeing with the left means your a racist , sexist or xenophobe .
