March 27, 20179 yr I saw on twitter a post where John Higgins has officiated 5 NCAA games that involved Kentucky and the Cats have lost 4 of them. Their only win was over Cornell. They lost to Michigan State when Tubby was coach, lost in 2011 to UCONN in the Final Four (he was the ref under the basket that called the infamous foul on Liggins when a Huskies player jumped sideways and flopped down. Replays showed he wasn't touched and basically put on a Hollywood act), loss to Wisconsin in 2015, and the loss yesterday. That's a little too coincidental for me. The guy clearly has a dislike for UK. He's simply made too many obvious calls and no calls against the Cats. I'm not much on conspiracy theories but I believe the proof is in the pudding, or in Higgins' case the whistle, with his ref duties when Kentucky is playing. Oh no, not another "the refs fault" from a UK fan. Come on P', you're better than that.
March 27, 20179 yr My Facebook feed yesterday was full of "The Refs suck", "Hard to win when it's 8 against 5", "The NCAA definitely wants an ACC team in the Final 4". You can count on it 95% of the time when Kentucky loses or is losing. It gets old and it's embarrassing. Sure there were some missed calls. There are missed calls every game, and it goes both ways. Sounding like a bunch of sore losers every time we lose probably ranks a little higher over the arrogance on why most people hate Kentucky.
March 27, 20179 yr Oh no, not another "the refs fault" from a UK fan. Come on P', you're better than that. The fouls were even in number, but the first half seemed inconsistent with the type of fouls being called. Thought the second half seemed much more even.

I will say that complaining about the officiating is a bad trend, but when a national show on ESPN brings up within the first 10 minutes of their morning show, then I would say it's not just UK fans being "sore losers". First half was pretty inconsistent in the type of fouls being called, second half seemed much more consistent.
March 27, 20179 yr Nobody calls a timeout in that situation, IMO. You just tied the game and are gonna give your opposition the opportunity to draw up a play to beat you? Nah... Cal disagrees. Says he should have called timeout. I tend to agree that you let them play on.
March 27, 20179 yr 18 or 19. So the only fouls called on UK were the only fouls they committed? No missed calls? Got it
March 27, 20179 yr Shortly after their winning streak had started, he went to Cal and told him that if he wasn't rebounding or defending like he wanted him to to pull him. Now, maybe I'm off base here, but that doesn't sound like something a guy that "doesn't care" would do. Good info. I had not heard that. What that tells me is that Monk doesn't even realize when he is losing focus or making mistakes. He needed Cal to stay on him and help him become more self aware and focused. Good for him that he did that.
March 27, 20179 yr I've changed my mind after some deep meditation and reflection of those post that have enlightened me to what I thought I saw yesterday but actually was mistaken in how I saw it. This was the best officiated game in the history of college basketball and John Higgins should be in the Referee Hall of Fame when he retires. And the 2017 North Carolina Tar Heels are the greatest team that's ever played in the NCAA tournament.
March 27, 20179 yr Dare I say Cals lack of in game coaching hurt his team down the sttretch? Hind sight is 20/20,but why not call time out and set your D on the last possession? Or when they go Up 5 and take horrible shots. Call time there and calm them down set up a play designed to get the ball down low In the post game Cal said he thought about calling time but UNC inbounded very, very quickly. The opportunity to call a TO was gone.

March 27, 20179 yr Wow. You may want to see a doctor. It could be perforated. Lol, you don't know how much all this venting has helped me. I think I'm going to be okay now.
