March 27, 20179 yr I don't think there's a game thread on here that you haven't criticized Monk. Just be honest about it. You don't like him for some reason. So I guess you think the first match-up Monk embarrassed Jackson? Jackson is a difficult dude to guard when you're giving up 5-6 inches and a lot of length. Ahh there it is, the "these guys don't care" cop-out. That's such a lazy narrative. I only began to criticize Monk the last month or so of the year. My criticism is mostly out of frustration. Monk has so much potential that he did not realize this year. I don't think he ever bought in on defense. I wanted his offensive game to become more than it ever did. Criticism of Monk by me was because I see so much talent and wanted to see more moments like him blocking the three point try vs Wichita and him getting more than a rebound or two a game or more assists. Monk could have done so much more. That is my criticism. I think he is awesome, super talented and underperformed.
March 27, 20179 yr I am ready for Kennedy Meeks to move on. The guy has always annoyed me for some reason.
March 27, 20179 yr I'm not buying that North Carolina is better overall. They won the game on a 19-footer at the buzzer. They had more losses than Kentucky in a clearly overrated ACC. I would call it an even matchup and if they played a 7-game series, it would go the full 7. You're about as much of a homer as the KSR crew. A bad tourney proves the ACC was overrated? Unbelievable

I think he's improved immensely in those areas, specifically on defense, but to each their own I suppose.
March 27, 20179 yr You guys have your fun and in the future, I'll have mine too. It was very clear to everyone, not just Kentucky fans, that the officiating was suspect in the first half. That being said, Kentucky held a 5-point lead with 5 minutes to go and should have extended that lead and won the game. Instead, Roy Williams switched to a zone defense, Kentucky took 3 consecutive poor shots, UNC went on a run and took a 5-point lead of their own. Then Malik Monk hit a huge 3-pointer to tie it and Maye nailed the game-winner in a flash. Great shot. Game over. Congrats North Carolina :thumb: I'm not bitter or upset with the loss. I think Kentucky had a great season and a run to the Elite 8 is nothing to hang heads about. Sometimes the other guy just makes a big shot and that's what happened here. Kinda like December, no?

March 27, 20179 yr Fair enough. I think he's improved immensely in those areas, specifically on defense, but to each their own I suppose. As I posted in the other thread, he got benched twice by Cal in one of the SEC tournament games for lack of defense. He played better defense after that.
March 27, 20179 yr Kentucky had there opportunities as they were up 5 and blowed it after a conterversial first half. UNC made the adjustments and capitalized. When we where up 5 our best players needed to take over... Humphries had the hot hand but our playmakers needed to step up and they really should of busted that Zone wide open with a 3 from Monk or exposed it will fox driving. The ending was devasting but UNC almost opened the door for us when it really shouldnt of been that close. i am blue and blue until the end but it is what it is.... I dont want UNC to win it because this tournament has them in two games where calls are questionable... Oregon is a good team and experienced as well as UNC so they will not have a easy road.... i am on the South Carolina band wagon but anyone but UNC and i will be happy.
March 27, 20179 yr As I posted in the other thread, he got benched twice by Cal in one of the SEC tournament games for lack of defense. He played better defense after that. Shortly after their winning streak had started, he went to Cal and told him that if he wasn't rebounding or defending like he wanted him to to pull him. Now, maybe I'm off base here, but that doesn't sound like something a guy that "doesn't care" would do.
March 27, 20179 yr Dare I say Cals lack of in game coaching hurt his team down the sttretch? Hind sight is 20/20,but why not call time out and set your D on the last possession? Or when they go Up 5 and take horrible shots. Call time there and calm them down set up a play designed to get the ball down low

You call time out there you also allow them to draw something up. If Maye doesn't drill that shot, everyone would be questioning Roy today as to why he didn't call a TO to set something up. I think letting it ride is the best way to play it from both the offensive and defensive sides....

Or when they go Up 5 and take horrible shots. Call time there and calm them down set up a play designed to get the ball down low Hump had an open 16 footer he missed. Willis had an open corner 3 and missed. Monk had a bad TO, but Carolina hit three really difficult shots (Pinson baseline, Jackson mid-lane floater and Berry runner high off the glass). And least we forget ... "getting the ball down low" never worked once the entire game. If Cal calls a timeout and NC goes down and wins it, people would say he gave NC the opportunity to set up a play. Sometimes it just doesn't go your way. It happens. Not Cal's fault
March 27, 20179 yr 19-18 in fouls... woo, real game changer UNC should have had 30 fouls against them, or more.
March 27, 20179 yr Nobody calls a timeout in that situation, IMO. You just tied the game and are gonna give your opposition the opportunity to draw up a play to beat you? Nah...
