I didn't realize Fox played only 8 minutes in the first half until I saw it posted on another site. Tough to win like that. Possibly the best guard in college basketball sitting on the bench. If that had happened vs UCLA it would have resulted in a loss.

And I'm not saying he didn't foul twice to get him on the bench. I am saying it's a tough pill to swallow when that occurs and during the same half Bam is getting fouled to death and no whistle. Just my opinion but it was a terribly one-sided officiated game. And from what I've read this morning quite a few of the nation's sports writers thought UNC had the advantage with the refs. John Higgins for certain should be asked to resign as a college official. He's awful.

Cal said in his post game comments that he was surprised that his team played as close as they did with the foul trouble they had. He said it would have been nice to have played the first half with a full roster of starters. My complaint is that fouls weren't called on Meeks and others inside the paint. Meeks finished the game with 10 fouls, most of course not called. :irked:

I know that this is an opinion shared by very few, but I am glad to see Bam leaving. Our beast has a four cylinder engine that stands idleing at the elbow watching teammates shots rebounded by opponents. A warrior doesn't play 34 minutes and get a weak two fouls while the opponents are continually ripping rebound after rebound off the glass. Are his arms short and/or hands small? Just cannot imagine being that tall and strong and continually getting dunks blocked because he takes so long to slam the ball through with his two hand wind-up delivery. Hands of stone and fundamentally weak with continually putting the ball on the floor. Seems like he mentally engaged about 10 minutes in this game. IMO

I was frustrated with Fox's first foul. I feel like I've seen that called an offensive foul a million times this year. I personally thought he defended the ball perfectly.

 

His second foul was stupid. Whether he believed he fouled him or not, you can't reach in there and give the official a chance.

Also, Carolina went like 8-9 minutes without a FG and still had a lead. What's the excuse on that one? It's funny how each time UK loses its automatically the refs fault, the excuse is worn out

Nobody made Cal sit Fox. There is no rule that requires guys to sit with two fouls. According to a series of articles by Ken Pomeroy, the evidence is spotty on whether sitting guys is good or bad. Cal adheres to the belief that guys should sit with two fouls. I tend to disagree with that coaching philosophy, and I think Kentucky would have benefited from getting Fox back into the game in the first half, but to each his own.

You can go on and on all day but the officials played a major role in the game, especially in the first half. You know it, I know it and everyone else who watched the game knows it.

So you think Kentucky was better? How so?

 

It was an even matchup and considering that Kentucky played two top 5 teams in 3 days, it's hard to knock the Wildcats...even for a Louisville fan.

I put this on Twitter last night and I stand by it...

 

My take: I can't call 32 wins, an SEC championship, an SEC Tournament championship and 2 points away from the Final Four a disappointment

On the fouls and refs, how many games this year did both Fox and Monk have 4 fouls on them? I don't know the answer but my guess is none - until yesterday.

 

That being said, I do think Carolina is a little better overall. The only matchup where UK has an advantage is Fox over Berry. In this game, Jackson over Monk and Maye over Willis/Gabriel were what won the game for UNC. Jackson is just better than Monk. It is that simple.

I'm not buying that North Carolina is better overall. They won the game on a 19-footer at the buzzer. They had more losses than Kentucky in a clearly overrated ACC. I would call it an even matchup and if they played a 7-game series, it would go the full 7.
