He'd have options. LSU, Georgia, Ole Miss, and Missouri could (should) all be looking for new coaches.

If they really wanted to let him go I doubt $3M is stopping them.

I would love if Mack went. The other two don't move it for me. That's just me.

Really? I don't know how IU fans would be happy if they hired Chris Mack. Chris Mack's career at Xavier so far is not drastically different than Crean's was at Marquette. In fact, Mack has never made it passed the sweet 16 while Crean lead Marquette to a final four. What does Mack really offer that is an immediate upgrade over Tom Crean?

Indiana has to set their sights high for their next coach. They cannot afford to miss on another hire. Mack would not even be in my top tier of options. To hit a homerun they need to land Stevens, Alford, or Donovan. I realize they might be long shots but they need to be pursued hard. If those guys don't bite, which I have a hard time believing none of them will, I would pursue Gregg Marshall or Archie Miller. IMO Archie Miller is a better coach and has much more upside than Mack.

Why do people keep thinking Alford, Stevens, or Billy D would even take the call? Stevens and Donovan aren't leaving the NBA for college unless they're forced out and that's not happening. More control and more $$ in the league.

Alford is at a blue-blood. He isn't leaving it just as he's starting to get it back to what it once was.

And while UCLA is a great job, it's also a bit of relaxed environment. I'd imagine coming to your home state, where you were an All-American, to coach a team that has only had a handful of "top-tier" seasons in the last 25 years but where the fan base expects it to happen every year would be the exact opposite of relaxed.

The right guy can certainly make Indiana one of the premier programs in the country, but I'm not sure if Alford would have any interest in trying to be that right guy.

Of all the names you could throw out there, how does Billy Donovan's come up? No way he would take the IU job.

I argue the only reason Crean made a final four was because of Dwyane Wade and not so much for his coaching ability. Even that might not have been enough had Bogans been completely healthy.

NC State starts the ball rolling......up next.....will it be hoosier land

And that was an impressive run, but that was what, 14 years ago now? For perspective, Rick Barnes made his only Final Four that same season.

Why do you think that? Just because he passed on the UK job twice? One of the main reason he left Florida was because he didn't feel the basketball program was receiving the same funding, attention, and support as the football program. He would have the exact opposite problem at IU who shows the basketball program as much support as any school in the nation. He also left for the chance to coach Westbrook and Durant together. Obviously, Durant messed that up and OKC is a fringe playoff team now. So to think there is no shot he would leave is naive in my opinion. Im not saying he would leave for sure, but I guarantee you he would take the call and listen to what Fred Glass has to say.

Couldn't you say the same (the bolded) about UK? If your right and he really did turn down the UK job twice and left Florida due to lack of support. Why in the would would he want to leave the NBA to go to Indiana? Basically because Durant left? I hope your not being serious.

My guess as to why he may have turned down UK if he was offered the job is because he had his sights set on the NBA or just didn't want the pressure involved with taking the UK job at the time. Either way, Indiana falls into that same category, minus the fact that he already has his NBA job. So again, what logical reason would he leave the NBA without being fired to take a high stress college job?

Another loss last night for Crean and the Hoosiers. Makes 5 in a row and 7 of their last 8.

Something is going on with these guys. I have no idea what though. Injuries have sucked, but they're just not THIS bad. Couple guys are losing lots of NBA money by playing this bad though. I just don't get it.
