January 25, 20179 yr I home I'm wrong but this team doesn't look like a championship team to me. Not even remotely close to championship-caliber.
January 25, 20179 yr This team is so frustrating. For the first time this season I had to turn them off at halftime because they are so frustrating. Briscoe is the most frustrating of all. He reminds me of the Harrison twins where he cost this team with his selfishness and he can't hit the side of the barn most of the time it seems. When he went on a streak last night in the first half of chucking up 3 bricks in a row including missed layups, well that was it for me. In the first half they didn't go inside to Bam at all, I hear they finally did in the 2nd half but that's too late. That is what gets old with UK. Sure we get great recruits but it gets old seeing the same thing ever single year. There is no cohesiveness because of how young the team is every year. When they lose to teams that they should be beating by 20+ is ridiculous. It's coaching too. Coaching has to take some blame here, when you complain about discipline at the beginning of the year and there still isn't any discipline this late in the season then something is wrong. Watching this team is like watching an All Star game, all they do is run down court and force up a shot in about 10 secs. there is no offense, there is no defense, there are only young kids trying to show the NBA they can chuck up shots at will.
January 25, 20179 yr Im in agreement 100% with both comments. The dog and pony show of starting freshmen and then constantly saying "well we are young, and not disciplined" is wearing thin and has been for awhile. At some point he needs to coach instead of letting his young guys just keep shooting. Seems to me hes giving them the green light and then blaming poor shooting nights on youth. Well everyone and their brother could see it was an off night 10 minutes into the game. Call TO and tell your guys to feed the ball inside first and then work off of that.
January 25, 20179 yr Would I have liked to see them win that game last night, absolutely. However, Cal now has his "Look what happens when we do it your way" game.
January 25, 20179 yr Every year about this time we have several posters that think the wheels are coming off and the season is over. The majority of the time they are wrong and our team makes a nice little run in the tournament. But on the off year that they are right, watch out, because they'll let you know it. This team is still very capable of a Final Four run. Need to learn some things from this game and get better. Judging Cal's teams in January has proven to be a mistake more often than not. And we say all that with a team that is 17-3.
January 25, 20179 yr It's time to start Hawkins in place of Brisco Less than two weeks ago, everyone was praising Briscoe and saying he was the true leader of this team. Guy has a couple bad games and now we quit on him. We don't make a deep run with Hawkins over Briscoe.
January 25, 20179 yr I home I'm wrong but this team doesn't look like a championship team to me. Right now no, but still a month and a half to get there. That 2014 team didn't look like a Championship team all year long, and didn't have near the talent. Yet they had one of the hardest paths possible in the tournament and still made it to the Championship. Its about playing their best come tournament time. They need to have games like this to really wake up these young players to the flaws they have to get fixed.
January 25, 20179 yr You can't get too worried about stuff that happens in January. Once you get into February and closer to the tournament time you start getting worried about some of these things if they aren't fixed
January 25, 20179 yr Embarrassing. Outside of Missouri, you won't find a worse team in the SEC than Tennessee. Flat out inexcusable to lose to a team as horrible as they are. Disagree with this. Tennessee has had a few close calls against top 20 teams. If they are the second worst team then maybe the conference isn't all that bad.
January 25, 20179 yr As much of a UK fan as I am, and hate to see them lose to a team they should beat any time, I don't worry or lose sleep over this. Unlike a lot of people in the bluegrass state where we need to issue a statewide suicide watch every time a Cat's loss happens. Lol

Briscoe is no doubt forcing things, and does need to be pulled quicker when he starts doing that. However he does do other things to the game like rebounding, which is why he should still start and not Hawkins. As for this game, I think Cal should have earned our trust that it will be fine come tournament time. The 2011 team was not one of the top 4 talented teams in the country that year, and that team couldn't win a road game to save their lives. Yet by tournament time he had the team playing its best and gave us our first final four since 1998. 2012 it was the best team and finished the job. 2014 that team we thought was very talented, but looking back on it. The twins weren't ever as good as we thought. Dakari Johnson was slow and couldn't jump, James Young was inconsistent and showing he wasn't nearly as good as some of the players we have around here. Julius Randle was the best player we had, and then WCS gets hurt in the tournament. Yet that team still made it all the way to the finals, while playing one of the hardest paths to get there. All your all's concerns are very valid, but the one thing he has shown is that he does have these young teams clicking and playing together come tournament time. Which is much more important to me, than them looking the part in January. What this team looks like now, is not what this team will look like come March.
January 25, 20179 yr Embarrassing. Outside of Missouri, you won't find a worse team in the SEC than Tennessee. Flat out inexcusable to lose to a team as horrible as they are. Kenpom has them as the 5th best team in the SEC behind Kentucky, Florida, South Carolina, and Georgia. They aren't great, but they've been pretty competitive against a solid schedule.
