I do hate that Owen lost. I was really looking forward to watching Carson Williams play.

Some Covington catholic fans may share that view on a public forum, but I would venture to guess that most have a quiet confidence about their team. A team that hasn't lost since 1/12, has a track record of success in March and a great coach and staff. Not a mind reader, but I can't see why any of their fans would share your view based on the afore mentioned factors.

Having no inside game cannot be a valid argument on why Owen would EASILY beat cov Cath, seeing as we both just watched a team beat them without 1 back to the basket post possession.

AJ Mayer can hold his own in the paint for the Colonels. He is very similar to Mark Schult 2 yrs ago when they won state but better offensively.

 

CovCath is playing at a very high level right now with the strong guard play.

I saw Covington Catholic against Madison Central this season. Good guard play, no inside game to speak of. Carson Williams would have had his way inside with them. They are not the best team in this state by a long shot. You will see in a couple of weeks once they are down at Rupp playing. I think they will win the 9th Region, but they are not going to win the state.

 

CovCath would destroy Owen County.

Must have missed Simon Kenton's failure when they were up 19 entering the 4th quarter against Gallatin County and got beat on a last second three.

 

South Oldham faces Collins in the semifinals next Monday. Collins pulled off one of the most remarkable comebacks I've seen in the first game. They were down 14 points, forced overtime and defeated Simon Kenton to advance. Great night of basketball at Henry County!

@OldhamOldie, the team you are choosing to pick out that Owen County would hypothetically beat is a two-time Sweet 16 Final Four team (and one Championship) in the last two years, a team that is ranked in the top 10 of every ranking / poll there is, that played a much harder schedule, and against their three common opponents out-performed Owen County in all 3? Your evidence for this hypothetical comparison is that you watched them, on the road, 90 minutes away, on a night they were at school, at a very solid Madison Central team, only eek out a narrow victory? When asked to defend why Owen Co. is better, you say, just watch, CovCath won't win state? That is the yardstick when comparing them to Owen County, they have to win state before you'll believe they are better than an Owen County team who didn't make their regional semi's (and has never won a regional tournament)?

Gallatin also trailed by 12 with 2:30 remaining in that 2012 matchup.

I love Carson Williams and I make sure to take my youth soccer team to Owen County every season because those are all good people. Good people who would probably appreciate it if you would stop making things worse.

I saw Covington Catholic against Madison Central. They are a solid team, very good guards, no post presence at all.

 

Lack of an inside presence is why many thought Owen would beat South Oldham.

Not at all surprised by this one. Saw South Oldham three times over Christmas and was very impressed. They have really good players and are well coached. I do agree with a previous poster who said Oldham County will be a tough matchup. I suspect it will be one of those two at Rupp.

Hats off to Owen, their staff, players and community on a fine season. Foul trouble plagued the Rebels all night as they had to play some kids off the bench in big moments that I felt unaccustomed to seeing in the game. They could not guard South at all gave up 50 points in the second half. Missed a ton of FT's, and seemed gased early on in the first half. Dunaway could not guard anyone and they needed him desperately on offense where he only had 2 points, just not a good match up for him. Carson with 38 points but had 5-6 minutes stretches where he did not touch the ball enough.

South and thier coaching staff well prepared, changed defenses at least 10 times, played about everything you can imagine and caught the Rebels in some spots that forced T/O's. Bench play was 33-5 in favor of the Dragons. They lead the state as a team at 78% from the FT line and they attacked the rim all night long. Only 1 made 3 the first half and only attempted 7. The second half was led by the bench of South, Snook with 14 in the 4th quarter, Griffin with some big shots, and Williams attacking. Great team effort and they deserve to move on.
