Really fun night of basketball with good company.

Kudos to SO's staff for realizing they could do well taking OC off the bounce. SO basically runs 4 guards and a 3. It was a touch matchup for Carson and the big boy from OC. Then they were able to hit the occasional 3. They started to blow it halfway through the 4th by not being patient despite being up 10 and in the bonus. They failed to run clock and failed to score enough. Then they started missing FTs. But...they won and it was a really fun game.

I don't know names but #11 for SO has a really nice offensive game. He didn't seem to miss many shots.

How did the Owen Co. fans handle the loss?

I was sitting near a bunch of them. They were salty. One guy was so mad his sunglasses came flying onto the floor during play. Some were not discerning in the pejoratives used towards the officials. If I heard "call the foul, ref" once I heard it 50 times. They are certainly passionate and love their team.

Great support. There were a bunch of there at 5:30 .

Sure enjoyed it. Had a great seat and great company with TB&G and Clyde. Saw two great games. South won, didn't hit 15 threes. Not even close.

I had a great time, too. Clyde saved us some of the best seats in the house, too! We had a little BGP reunion going on when Mack the Knife and buttels joined us. Great games and even better company.

That would be Joe Griffin! I love his calm demeanor. He showed some leadership skills tonight, too. He was a huge asset.

Thanks to all of you for coming out. I would love to sit with all of you sometime soon and talk hoops, but when my son is not playing. 2 great games tonight. The 8th never fails to provide excitement. South won this without the 3. Tremendous balance. South is hard to guard.

Can't wait to see Williams at NKU next season, he's going to have a good career.

It's hard to beat a team twice after the first match up was close. Great season for Owen County. Really hoping to see them at Rupp. Congratulations to South Oldham, I've got a feeling that this was the 10th region championship tonight

Voting for Mr. Basketball is over anyway. It ended this past Friday.

Was getting ready to post the same thing.

Frankly, South will have a more difficult matchup problem with Oldham.

South Oldham faces Collins in the semifinals next Monday. Collins pulled off one of the most remarkable comebacks I've seen in the first game. They were down 14 points, forced overtime and defeated Simon Kenton to advance. Great night of basketball at Henry County!
That may have been the worst 50+ seconds for a team down by basket in the history of postseason basketball I can ever remember. It just got worse and worse. I don't want to hijack this one at all. But it really was two fun games to watch.

8th region.

As I said earlier Owen didnt want this matchup in the first round and this was the game to watch for an upset. But now...who the heck wins the 8th? I will be at the Roy tomorrow night pulling for Anderson...road just got slightly less bumpy.

I see I'm not alone in that I was not expecting this, Congrats to South Oldham

Tremendous games in the Roy tonight....thoroughly enjoyed broadcasting them....and my voice seems to be getting better!

Upset though...all you BGPers were there in the arena and only Buttels came up to say "hi". Expect to see all of you in the coming nights coming up to the press box!! I get there about 4:45 pm every night.....

South played extraordinarily well tonight. Steve Simpson does a great job refocusing his team after a district loss - maybe he should start planning on that (being the district runner-up). Remember, SO was district runner-up to Oldham in 2013 and 2014 .... and won the region both years....

Balance and depth won the game for the Dragons tonight. Four players in double figures (Snook 16, Griffin 15, Williams 15, and Bray 15) plus Isaac Fields with 9. The bench outscored the Owen bench, 33-5...

Free throw opportunities were dead even .... both teams shot 30 free throws, but South hit 22 and Owen only 19...

Both teams shot the ball well (South was an even 50% from the floor and Owen was even better), and neither could fully shut down the other's offense. Turnovers were nearly even.

Kudos to both teams - very entertaining in front of a packed house.

Owen - you were a great representative for all us in the 8th region this year! South - congrats on fantastic game! You were well prepared and executed perfectly.

Tomorrow night: Oldham vs. Henry Co 6 pm and Walton-Verona vs. Anderson afterward. Both games on The Pegasus Sports Network - PSN

29-3 and Top 10 rankings dont happen every year in Owenton. Its a pretty gut wrenching loss for a school and community that has never had this caliber of a team before, and captured the imagination of an entire community. But, sometimes the ball doesnt bounce your way....life sucks sometimes.

Congrats to South. If you didn't have a rooting interest in the games tonight, both of those teams were fun team to watch....and you certainly got your moneys worth with the two games tonight.

This game was extremely physical, especially on rebounds, loose balls and on any play involving Carson Williams. This was my first time getting to see sCarson play in person and I can't express how impressed my group and I were with his demeanor throughout the game. He was constantly getting hung on, grabbed, pulled and pushed, the entire game and never once complained or even changed his expression. The South Oldham players did a great job handling his physicality as well and even though he scored 38, it still felt like they contained him, as crazy as that sounds.

This would've been a tough game to officiate, to say the least, but one official in particular took it amongst himself to make 90% of the calls in the 2nd half. There was a stretch when he made at least 6 calls in a row. Anyone else notice that? It was like someone flipped a switch on him at halftime or something.

Really liked #21 for SO as well, drove fearlessly all night and knocked down FT's. Had a terrific 2nd half for the Dragons.

It was a great game, great atmosphere and well worth the drive to see this one in person.
