South Oldham 81 Owen County 76 (8th Region)

I was really hoping to see Williams at the State Tournament, but most of us knew South Oldham would be a tough contest. Coach Simpson keeps getting it done.

Congrats to South Oldham on their victory.

Carson, it's been real. Thank you for all of the entertainment you have provided fans of KY Hugh school basketball. Good luck at NKU and beyond!!!!

Thanks OC for a great ride. Probably the most heartbreaking defeat in the history of the school and the one chance we had to make the Sweet 16. Also, a huge blow to the Mr. Basketball chances of Carson.

Congrats to South Oldham. Great team and coach. Hope they do not take for granted yet another Sweet 16.

Sure enjoyed it. Had a great seat and great company with TB&G and Clyde. Saw two great games. South won, didn't hit 15 threes. Not even close.

Along with Mack, sounds like a great BGP group. Haven't had the pleasure of meeting the Knife, but I'd break bread and watch a game with doc, the one-legged eliminator and PB&J any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

The Dragons slay the King! Wow, what a game! South Oldham was 1 of 9 from three-point range at half and still in the game. Then Carson Williams scores 26 of his 38 points in the second half. And South Oldham still pulled away for a great victory, one of the best 8th Region games ever.

Dylan Snook hit huge shots and had 16 points for South Oldham. He nailed a pair of big three-pointers that sealed the win. Jacob Bray and Joe Griffin and Grant Williams all with 15 points and big plays for South Oldham. I thought the Dragons needed to hit 15 three-pointers, they only made about seven or eight and still won. Great effort by both teams, crowd was deafening in the fourth quarter.

Congratulations to Owen County for a fantastic season. A special salute to Carson Williams, who was a monster again tonight with 38 points. South Oldham did a great job on him the first half, but Williams poured in 26 in the second half. What a great player and classy young man.

The rest of the region should be fun.

South Oldham faces Collins in the semifinals next Monday. Collins pulled off one of the most remarkable comebacks I've seen in the first game. They were down 14 points, forced overtime and defeated Simon Kenton to advance. Great night of basketball at Henry County!

How did the Owen Co. fans handle the loss?

I talked with several of the Owen County fans after the game, and they were gracious in defeat. Like any fan, they had a few complaints but I thought the officials were fine. The ones I spoke to were heartbroken as you can understand. Maybe a fan or two yelled at the refs as they left the floor, but nothing I would call unusual.

I don't think this hurts his chances one bit. He had 38 points and lots of rebounds. I think he will be the choice when it's announced.

I hope he wins Mr. Ky Basketball. It is a shame the fans at Rupp won't get to see this special player. Seeing is believing, and he's the real deal.

Voting for Mr. Basketball is over anyway. It ended this past Friday.
