29-3 and Top 10 rankings dont happen every year in Owenton. Its a pretty gut wrenching loss for a school and community that has never had this caliber of a team before, and captured the imagination of an entire community. But, sometimes the ball doesnt bounce your way....life sucks sometimes.

 

Congrats to South. If you didn't have a rooting interest in the games tonight, both of those teams were fun team to watch....and you certainly got your moneys worth with the two games tonight.

 

You guys at Owen County have a great team and an awesome fan base. Congratulations on a fantastic season. It's always tough to accept a loss in the post season for any of us. I still think Owen County is one of the best teams in the state and could have won the whole thing if they could have got out of the 8th Region. No one has a better player than Carson Williams, and his second half tonight was sensational. Since I've married into the Oldham County school system years ago, you know my heart was with South Oldham tonight. I wish Owen County was in another region tonight because I believe they could have easily won several other regions close to us (6th, 9th, examples) with the talent you guys have on that roster. I hate to see Carson Williams great career in Owenton come to an end. He will be a great college player and we will all miss seeing him in the 8th Region.

This game was extremely physical, especially on rebounds, loose balls and on any play involving Carson Williams. This was my first time getting to see sCarson play in person and I can't express how impressed my group and I were with his demeanor throughout the game. He was constantly getting hung on, grabbed, pulled and pushed, the entire game and never once complained or even changed his expression. The South Oldham players did a great job handling his physicality as well and even though he scored 38, it still felt like they contained him, as crazy as that sounds.

 

This would've been a tough game to officiate, to say the least, but one official in particular took it amongst himself to make 90% of the calls in the 2nd half. There was a stretch when he made at least 6 calls in a row. Anyone else notice that? It was like someone flipped a switch on him at halftime or something.

 

Really liked #21 for SO as well, drove fearlessly all night and knocked down FT's. Had a terrific 2nd half for the Dragons.

 

It was a great game, great atmosphere and well worth the drive to see this one in person.

 

The crowd was just electrifying for both teams, what a night in the Henry County gym. As for the officials, I thought they did a very good job in a physical game. South Oldham utilized several defenses on Carson, and as I suspected, they made the entry passes hard to deliver in the first half. Owen County made some good adjustments at the half and started finding Carson more often on the block, and he scored 26 in the second half. But I thought the refs were fine, did not call too many fouls, let them play and decide it the way it should be. Owen County actually missed a lot of free throws or this would have been even closer.

I wish Owen County was in another region tonight because I believe they could have easily won several other regions close to us (6th, 9th, examples) with the talent you guys have on that roster.

 

I understand your love for Owen Co and Cason, but this is a ridiculous statement. The 9th has the #1 team in the Litkenhouse (or whatever they are called) Ratings and 3 or 4 other teams that would be tough match ups for Owen. Pump the brakes a little bit...

I thought the refs did a fine job as well, just to clarify. Just saying the one official stuck out to me as making just about every call in the 2nd half. I can't say that he made any calls I thought were "bad." Just an observation, something that stuck out to me thinking back on the game

I saw Covington Catholic against Madison Central this season. Good guard play, no inside game to speak of. Carson Williams would have had his way inside with them. They are not the best team in this state by a long shot. You will see in a couple of weeks once they are down at Rupp playing. I think they will win the 9th Region, but they are not going to win the state.

Block-Charge is the toughest call for refs at any levels. Carson is so big and strong many times he will get the short end of those calls. I don't think officiating played a role tonight. It was two very good teams going at it, and South Oldham made a few more plays in the final quarter. Clutch shooting by Dylan Snook really did it for the Dragons!

I am going to disagree on the 6th or the 9th, @OldhamOldie. I would instead insert the 3rd or the 10th. Or, 15th or 16th.

 

But, they are in the 8th, or at least until the Mason and Bracken Co fans can figure out their realignment plans in the other threads :sssh:

 

The 8th is a tough region....In the Louisville metro area, you have established programs with South and Oldham Co, while North is building to make it a three team race in the 29th. Collins and Shelby are certainly going to be both back being strong sooner rather than later. Spencer is another Louisville metro area school that is growing by leaps and bounds. Grant is an enigma, but certainly a potential player and still waiting on the Simon Kenton breakthrough in the 8th.
