Its just a "Preseason ranking". Doesn't mean a thing. Bama was picked 3rd one year and finished 3-8.

First off....the last time that I checked they do not give trophies for being the #1 ranked team in preseason polls...they do that the first weekend in December. Also too...preseason polls are purely in the eyes of the beholder and are based on expectations of the coming season not how a team did the year before. As a former high school player...and someone who is still around the game and has a good deal of inside information not made to the general public...most coaches do not want to be ranked #1 in the preseason as it can lead to complacancy among the players...but if you were ranked #2 or lower then as a player you play with a chip on your shoulder and are more determined to prove everyone wrong. Know I will say there is a lot of pride in being the #1 team in your class...but as someone who played on a #1 team in high school...it is much better to earn it during the season than have it handed to you in the preseason. The great news is that we can start playing it on the field instead of chat rooms in just under a week. Good luck to everyone this year in their respected classes.

How could BGP disrespect mighty ole Trinity by not ranking them preseason No. 1???? Just who do they think they are???? I mean really,, what is ment by that statement that most people on the outside looking in felt St. X had the better team over Trinity last year..... This just cant be possible...... We are Trinity....!!!

 

Ive heard enough of the above position, Trinity fans, get over it ..... Take your Championship and get on with it.... The rest of the football community does not need to rubber stamp your success in the title game last year..... We all saw the results of the September game.......

Trinity won the title last year and that is all that matters but I think most people on the outside looking in agree St. Xavier was the better team.

The exmen were better in the fifth game of the season. You could try to convince us that IF there had been a sixteenth game they WOULD have been better. But in the fifteenth game of the season, we know who was better. Late in the game, with the game on the line, 4th and one, head to head, the better team won the battle and the war. As far as the rankings this season, it is all just stuff for old guys to argue about. In a couple of weeks just lace em up and prove it.

# 3 & 4 does means quite a bit PRIDE & NATIONAL RANKINGS, #1 Should and does mean alot when the Team has 13 Players who either started or had alot of varsity playing time.

I'd bet that no more than one person from these "National Publications" has even seen Trinity play...EVER! They truly are meaningless...

I am a little confused, how does a team get picked 2nd when :

 

1) returning 2005 Ky. High School Football 4-A Champs.

 

2) returning Jefferson Co. #1 QB from 2005

 

3) ranked 15th and 26th in the NATION by High School Football Publications

 

4) ranked 6th in the Midwest Region by a High School Football Publication

 

This Team and Football Program has delivered time and time again?:confused:

I think you need to stop stressing about rankings and just watch to make sure games are won...in the big picture that is all that matters...then you can bask in the #1 ranking all you want at the end of the year!

I appreciate the time and effort that goes in to providing us (the readers) the info that goes into the preseason reports. It gives us all a lot to talk about. However... BGPers can't even decide who was the best team last year when there is hardware sitting in a throphy case in St. Matthews to prove such.... how can we possibly be expected to predict who is best in 2006?! I think the BGP ranking is as good as any... and since it is generating so much chit-chat is obviously serving it's purpose!

Sounds like you are the one who needs to get over it. September was a long time ago. I have forgotten about it. You might want to try letting December go. Life is too short. :thumb:
