You're right. It is what it is... Tough spot for a ref to be in at the end of game. But don't 100% confirm that Bilas said the ref "would be fired" if he called it the other way. Especially when video/audio evidence confirms you were completely wrong in what you originally posted.

Tough way to lose. Proud of the way Humphries played. Technical could have been overlooked but in the long run may be good for this team. Cal will use this as the us against the world motivation. Team looked physically tired, needs rest.

I'm fine with this loss. They played well without Willis and literally gave this game away. No kidding, they wrapped this one up in a pretty little box and handed it to A and M....

Here's what really matters...how bad is Willis' injury? The whole season rides on that injury.

This is a great point. If Willis is out for an extended time and then doesn't completely heal from the sprain when he does return, heading into the post season, it's going to really hurt the Cats. He has developed into a good stretch 4 and even Self commented following the Jayhawks OT win over UK that they would have had problems winning the game if they hadn't gotten Willis in foul trouble.

Here's wishing Willis, Poythress, and any others suffering nagging injuries, a quick and full recovery for March Madness.

If the ref was trying to be the star of the show I think he might have been a little more animated in making the T. The instant reactions on Humphries' and Ulis' faces showed everything. They knew it wasn't malicious, but knew what was coming. Still, the next time I see a ref refrain from calling a T when a player slams the ball without catching it with time still on the clock will be the first time.

 

As a fairly anti-UK guy who only saw the overtime, I felt pretty bad for the guy. Seemed to have gotten his best break of the year in capitalizing on his PT and made a boneheaded mistake.

Skal got his legs taken out on that last play I believe.

 

I hate for them to ever lose, but even pre-season I think we all knew this would be a tough game to win and most thought it would be a loss.

 

A&M has had a tough streak the last few games but before that they were playing like and I believe were a top 10 team.

 

Bottom Line....I Aint Mad!

 

My thoughts exactly JD, it honestly wouldn't shock me if A&M made a very deep ncaa run, possible final four. They play excellent defense, rebound the ball and no doubt that they are very well coached.

I am hoping that the medical / training staff can get D. Willis ready to go vs. Bama, this 3 games in 6 days stretch is more rough on him.

Losing sucks, but this lost didn't bother me much even the way they lost. I really like how this team is playing.

 

As for the technical, it sucks. However next time if he is going to get a technical, he needs to at least get a better spike out of the deal. It wasn't even a good spike lol.

Many officials will call that technical foul. A good official will not. By the rules this should not have been a technical foul. Having said that the technical did not cost UK the game. Defensive rebounding cost UK this one.

I don't think he would have spiked the ball if Ulis hadn't got him fired up with a chest bump. It was after that happened that he spiked it. He felt he had won the game and pleased the team leader all at the same time. Ulis tried to calm the situation after it occurred but it was too late. Not saying it was Ulis' fault or anything, just one of those bang bang things.

That's pretty much the way I saw it, too.

Nicely done. Ironically I didn't watch the championship that year, but the next time will definitely be the second time.

 

I stand by my point that players generally don't do it because they assume a T will follow, but I guess it isn't entirely automatic.

The unsporting technical foul on Humphries was unnecessary and wrong, in my judgment. It should not have been called.

In 1979 I went to my first baseball rules to be a high school umpire. Lewis Stout was the man in charge.

He brought up a hypothetical situation. A batter hits a ball over the fence for a home run then proceeds to take his helmet before crossing home plate.

By rule said player could have been called out.

Mr. Stout followed up by saying the batter was in no danger of being struck by the ball since it was lying over the fence. Therefore, common sense comes into play and let the play go.

Last night the official failed to use common sense.

By the rules this should not have been a technical foul. .
