Most of the prosperity of the 50s was due to America leading the way in rebuilding Europe after WWII not the tax code. Once Europe was rebuilt and began competing again, it was obvious to everyone rates would have to go back down to maintain growth.

I would specify Macroeconomics since it applies to everyone. Microeconomics would really only apply to business owners and managers. Save that for those who major in that type of degree.

Really? If so, that certainly takes away from the Buffet secretary story to a large degree Because such an income would put her in the top 10% easily and all her income would be highly taxed ordinary income.

 

To be fair let me clarify. With the effective rates they put out in that article for Buffet and his secretary their are only two conclusions. Either made over 6 figures or they weren't being truthful with numbers . The only way at that time she could be at an effective rate of 35.8% and not make six figures was if they including both sides of the payroll tax , which they did Buffet effective rate would be much higher than the 17.4%%. There were a few other points to this topic I remember doing calculations on this a few years back.

 

Also I'd like to state if we think logically the adminstration assistant for Buffet should be making 6 figures. I'm guessing it isn't an easy job and I know many corporate adminstration assistants ( PC term for secretary ) who make around and above 6 figures.

Yes, his decision to bailout banks and auto industry was a poor decision. I am certain no one would have liked the alternative, and that includes me. BUT nothing changed in business-as-usual in corporate America.

I'm not worried literally zero chance a proclaimed socialist is president. He is popular with far left loons . But wouldn't win over independents or middle America.
