This platooning topic has really exploded into something. :lol2:

I sought the official sports definition to prove Jack Lambert wrong. BUT he is correct by definition.

Platooning:

(in baseball and other sports) have (an athlete) play in rotation with one or more teammates at the same position.

"he was underrated because of Stengel's platooning him with Woodling"

 

We as fans typically mean platooning as a set of different players for offense and defense but the technical term means rotating a person at the same position.

Highlands has never had 11 new guys they run in on offense and defense in the course of the game which would include removing the QB. It would make no sense to remove 11 starters at the same time. No team at any level of football has ever done that, that im aware of. Sometimes you sub personnel packages for more dbs or more speed on offense but Highlands nor any D1 or NFL has done what you are calling platooning. Platooning is simply having a separate defensive unit from offensive unit.

Thought that I would look up some stats from both team. Now I was just doing this for everyone to see not trying to point nothing out before someone gets upset. These are averages a game.

These stats include the Playoff Game.

Consider this. Boyle 42 Waggner 14, Central 21 Waggner 6. What was different. Boyle lost to Lex Catholic, Robbins was hurt in 1st quarter, Robbins ran 1 time after that in 3 weeks. Robbins back 100% out runs every one on Waggner 's team. Boyle is a different team when Robbins is 100%. That is the difference. He is one of the best dual threats in the state, and always one of he fastest kids on the field. I argue if Robbins wasn't hurt against Lex , could have been a different outcome. Boyle is healthy and hungry.

Boyle County by 14.

Not sure the year but went to Fort Thomas a few years ago in a early regular season game and Boyle dominated the first half in the second half Mueller started platooning on offense and defense by the end of the 3rd or the beginning of the 4th Boyle was gassed Highlands wound up winning by a couple scores and yes he was subbing 11 for 11. Like I said in my post Highlands is the only team That I've seen do this. There's probably only 2 or 3 schools in Ky that have the depth to platoon like that and Highlands may have only done it the one time it's the only time I've ever seen it happen.

I remember it this way as well.

I don't recall either T or X fully subbing 11 at one time. Not to say it hasn't happened. But for the purposes of KHSAA football, I'd say platooning is more of a definition of having the depth to sub liberally without much drop off in skill or talent.

Ok guys my memory may not be perfect about Highlands subbing in that game but I just called a couple of guys that I went to the game with that evening and they both agreed that the Birds were subbing closer to 11 than 4 or 5 in the second half of that game. Quote this post all you want but this is my story and I 'm sticking to it and I'm done talking about platooning if I had known it would turn into a 2 or 3 page topic I wouldn't have said anything about platooning.

We can disagree. No biggie. I was at the game also and watched it on Hudl about a half a dozen times in the following weeks after the game. I mean we are talking about a game played over 3 years ago so in the big picture it really doesn't matter. Depth hurt Boyle County that season in many of their games. Of their 5 losses they had the half time lead in 4 of them. (Including LexCath both games) They were never in the John Hardin game but the others they all led at half and couldn't close it. So that part of the discussion I totally agree with.

Going with the Rebels 27-14. That is if Josie is at 100%.

Rebels will win it 28-21. Weather Channel shows High temp of 49 degrees on Friday. Game time temps will likely be lower. I think Boyle's offense is suitable for these conditions. Not sure about Central's.

The trump card in this game is the deplorable field conditions at Central. Having watched the film from Central vs Western Hills, field conditions were a major factor. And with rain today and more forecasted for Wednesday, this field is only going to get worse. I think Boyle is better off playing at Central rather than Central coming to Boyle.

How does a bad field help Boyle ?
