Yep. I was told the same when I brought it up last season.

The Central vs Western Hills game was shocking and made zero sense.

 

I think this is purely a tossup and would be surprised if either wins by more than 10 points one way or another. Two fine programs, two fine coaches, two excellent teams.

 

I will echo though the importance of Boyle to protect the ball. If Boyle holds on to it and do not lose a turnover they win. Boyle turns it over two or more times and Central wins

 

An example of how important not turning the ball over to Central:

 

Corbin was playing at Central in the playoffs around 4 years ago, believe the score was 7-7 with a little over a minute to go in the first half. Corbin stops Central on 3rd down around their own 30 yd line, there is a holding penalty on Central that

Corbin accepts for some reason, so they replay 3rd down. Central throws it deep and up for grabs and their all state RB takes it away from 2 defenders and scores on an 85 yd pass play. Central kicks off, Corbin fumbles and Central picks it up and runs it in for another score. So instead of 7-7 at the half, it's now 21-7. Corbin receives the second hand kickoff, again fumbles it and Central runs it in for another score. On the following possession, Central picks off a pass and returns it for a pick 6. It's amazing how often they score off of turnovers.

Today is Tues. 3days before the game with no more rain in sight. Why are we talking sloppy field?

 

Originally Wednesday's forecast called for Thunderstorms. Not sure what happened there. Central's field will still be awful. I believe Central does not have a practice field, so the game field is used everyday (someone correct me if I am wrong). Having watched the Western Hills game from last week, there isn't much, if any grass between the hashes.

Okay since there were a couple of other comments about how a dry field changes everything and a wet field will favor Boyle. Can someone please explain why they feel this way. Swanner runs hard, I know that. What else? There must be a reason.

Count me in the crowd that the field condition shouldn't effect either team.

 

"A wet field hurts Central"- Isn't Boyle's Offense predicated on the passing game? As I have pointed out turnovers are the biggest key for Boyle and a muddy field means a wet ball. Whatever speed Central loses evens out. If this is a battle of power running vs. power running give me Central.

 

"A dry field hurts Boyle"- Dry field = dry ball. Boyle is at their best when they are balanced and Robbins' is making plays with his feet and his arm. Defensively, Boyle will be able to get outside quicker when Central uses the stretch play they love to run so much.

 

These are two elite programs and Head Coaches. Scroggins and Smith have won big time playoff games playing in mud, cold, rain, dry, and even unseasonably hot conditions I am sure. Landscaping won't decide this outcome... it's all about X's and O's, Jims and Joes, and who holds on to the football.

Centrals practice field is attached to the school. Other than games there is no activity on the stadium field all year. Field should be in pretty decent shape (dry). If you think its rough trying to play football on it try coaching soccer on it. Gonna be there Friday Rebel?

Looking back, if Boyle don't turn the ball over they will win by 2 tds. Has Boyle turned the ball over a lot this year? I just dont think Central can score any other way on Boyle's defense if Boyle don't turn it over. This game could get bad for Central if Boyle is playing like they was earlier in the year.

I dont think people mean favor Boyle as much as they mean hurt central. IMO as I have not posted about this topic and do not care however I think people mean that it will negatively affect central. I assume people are coming to this conclusion because the original post about the field was that it was messy when the poster watched them play western hills. The final of that game was 21-6 I think the original poster came to the conclusion that the field lead to some poor play on the part of central. That the reason behind it that I came up with and again just answering your question as I do not have an opinion on the matter myself.

False statement 85_Rebel. They have a regulation football field in-which they practice on. They only play games at the stadium. Just so happens; so does soccer, jv/freshmen football, and youth league. This google map shows two fields.

This has been a really good day for me. Seems everything has gone my way. Went to Wal-Mart today and there was a parking spot close to the front door. When checking out, a new lane just opened up and I was first in line. When I get back to the car I found a $20 bill in the parking lot. To many good things happening and with all this good luck no way Boyle loses tomorrow night. :banana:
