From all the craziness have to say Wayne Mills at Bell County.. and to be honest if I was Mills I would want out of that circus myself

How many HCs have been fired the past two years? Wasn't it an insane amount?

Hot seat? What is this? College football? It amuses me when we have these discussion as if there's some type of Nick Saban out there that teams can just go out and snap up. We've seen several cases in recent years (e.g. Middlesboro) where a team gets rid of a moderately successful coach because they think they can do better and the opposite happens.

Threads like these are indicative of society's larger problems. It's high school football.

Lets see. Work with kids ages approx 14 to 17. Work with quite a few dysfunctional people (mostly adults). Teach school, mentor other adolescents (as well as players). Have people who think they know more than you scream at you at games and get on social media and bash you. HOT SEAT........ Least of a coaches concern

There were 54 jobs that came open last year. Some were due to getting fired, some were people resigning only b/c they were being forced out (resigned, but fired), many were due to people just flat out hanging it up and very few were open due to playing leap frog.

@gchs_uk9 and @Colonels_Wear_Blue might be able to dig it up, but I had made a few posts about the schools who HAVEN'T had openings the last five years or so. Prior to last year, the average was right at 40 (39.8 if memory serves me correct).

If the over/under was set at 30 this year, I'd take the over.

Thank you and Amen.

That is so true. I hate that administration that doesn't know a thing about athletics get involved.

I don't like that this is a topic but unfortunately it happens. IMO if a coach teaches his players to be good men, play hard until the end, good sportsmanship, respect and as much about the game of football as he can then he is successful at his job. Wins are always nice and championships even better but ultimately an individual cannot control the talent he receives year in and year out so wins and losses shouldn't have a big effect on wether a coach is fired or forced to resign. Too bad that there are many who do not feel this way.

Unfortunately there are too many people (community members that coached "way back when", retired coaches who coached the most talented teams in school history, school board members, parents...etc) that put pressure on spineless supers and admin. They begin to listen to the cowards of the county (who NEVER actually go speak with the coach) and determine that with "all the talent out there" that they are underachieving. Never mind the aforementioned points about making boys (most now come from single mother homes) into REAL men, wins and losses become the focus. But what almost always happens is that team, with all that talent, doesn't outperform the previous year/years and the new coach gets put on over the fire...this is 50% of Kentucky schools as of late and a dangerous trend for the young men of those programs.

Morals and all of that stuff is fine and dandy, but until there are awards for kids being good people or having a high GPA, wins will be all that matter. I've known plenty of coaches who weren't bad people in the slightest, but were just awful at coaching. A lot of the "feel good" stuff in little league and middle school. When a kid gets to high school, if he's a jerk, chances are he's going to stay a jerk. Very few people I graduated high school with ever went from being a total butt to being a super good, fun person.

A coach is given what they are given, they can't change that. But, no body has fun watching their team consistently get the clock run on them. And ultimately, if players and fans aren't having fun, a coach isn't going to last long. People talk about certain offenses being "fun" or "fun to watch," but at the end, if you win, you're fine.

It's not fair to judge a high school coach by win-loss record, but it's life. It's not going to change.

I'll go out on a limb and say if the kid was a jerk then he more than likely helped you lose more games than win. Kids like that aren't very coachable. I also know a lot of kids that got their lives turned around in some way or another because of a coach. It's funny how all these people who know so much never apply for the job.
