Isn't that what you do? Plenty of schools coaches do not work as teachers such as Lafayette, Taylor Co. West Jessamine, these guys are just coaches. Then the coaches who are teachers have separate contracts from their teaching job, you do not sign a contract that goes hand and hand with your teaching job. You can be fired as a coach and still have your teaching contract they do not go together. Plenty of coaches have been fired or resigned from their coaches spot and stayed on to teach, the contracts are completely separate from one another.

You have to apply for two separate jobs, one is a coaching job inside the district, the other is a teaching job.

I would hate to be a non tenured teacher that was asked to resign from a coaching position I am going to say the chance of you coming back to a teaching position in the school in that situation is very slim. Your argument is still invalid, Hard to teach a full day of class and be the best coach you can possibly be.

How is my argument invalid? Your teaching contract is separate from your coaching contract. Your contract as a coach is to win is it not?

West Jessamine

I am confused on why people in this thread think its ok to keep coaches in position as the head coach when they continue to lose. The job of the head football coach is to win football games. Yes it's great when coaches are fantastic life teachers and mentors and we all want coaches to do that, but a coaches job is to coach and win football games, and if you don't do that you should be fired. The job of teacher and counselors is to teach and mentor students.

West Jessamine has no players and no assistant coaches. You should be fired.

I am sorry, I thought it was the coaches job to get the best athletes out to play football, as well as hire his staff? I am not bashing the coach I don't know the guy I don't even know his name. I just know that Jessamine county has enough talent to win more than 2 games in 2 years.

Nope. MOST, nearly all coaches in KY teach a full schedule. 5-6 preps a day in a state tested content area. Unless you're tenured you sign a 1 year teaching contract...so it does go hand in hand with your 1 year coaching contract. They simply choose not to renew the teaching contract, thus fire you without "firing" you. So, hire only coaches to coach, pay them 60k and you have an argument for a wins/losses based hire/fire system. Until then, MOST districts hire a teacher who coaches, not the other way around. There are ALWAYS exceptions to that rule, but rare in KY. Head south to GA, AL, AR, FL and you will find a system that incorporates what you want.

No, actually it isn't, in most cases the contract in writing is littered with terms such as "provide students with a positive role model", etc. Haven't looked at many district contracts that say you must win this many games. If the school is throwing resources and things at the program such as colleges do then it is acceptable, unless they are running things like a college or pro program then no it is not acceptable.

Perhaps West Jessamine has the best athletes out...since 2000 WJ has won about 1/3 of their ball games. That should about sum up WJ and all the talent walking the halls.

You are bashing the guy and asking for him to be fired. He WANTS to be there. They are lucky anyone wants to. You need to go call for the head of the AD and district AD and possibly principal if you want a better football program.

You probably just don't know how the real world works but Yancy doesn't just get to hire who he wants and doesn't have applicants anyway. Kids will come out or they won't and he can't force them to participate in a program that they can see gets no support. I don't know if he is a great coach or a bad one but I do know changing him out for whats next isn't the answer.

Its a little different in high school since you are in most cases dealing with the talent pool of that school. It really does not matter what type of X's and O's you have if you do not have the Jimmy and Joe's to execute. Unless you are in a situation in high school where you can take advantage of open enrollment you are stuck with that schools population. Its talent that wins games.

How many school districts do not have open enrollment. My understanding the majority of school districts are open enrollment.

Most school districts are open enrollment (some tuition based if you live out of district)...but mom and dad have to transport, the school district ain't picking up that tab.

Why would anyone out of district want to go play for West Jess? Poor facilities, no coaching staff, weak boosters, no admin support. Why would kids in the school who are on the borderline want to go out? If you're good at sports you're probably going to play baseball or basketball instead.

As a head coach your responsible for building a program that will compete and if your not then that's going against the contract you signed... Being a teacher comes with it and you just have to figure how to manage it that's why most HC teach PE or special ED something easy so they can dedicate more time to the football team...when you apply for a college job for the first time the first thing they ask on your resume is have you been ssuccessful at the highschool level and that means wins and losses not how many kids graduated with a 4.0 GPA

Most football contracts don't mention being competitive...just FYI. Special ED is now apart of the GAP and the most highly litigated area...not an "easy" job by any stretch anymore since that is the emphasis in most districts now and most PE jobs are held by tenured teachers and former coaches so that's out. Most college coaches start as GA's and rarely as HS head coaches. With that said, the biggest issue is expectation vs reality vs resources. IMO.

That is only semi true, you can definately out scheme other teams. We still have about half the teams in the state lining up power I and trying to run it in 2015, about 40% of the teams buy the Tony Franklin system and barely practice. Very few good coaches are out there. I also see tons of teams winning with less talent, look at all the small schools that beat these Lexington schools, you can't tell me for a second that Lexington does not have the second most talent in the state outside of Jefferson county.

I will agree that schemes and coaching come into play, but I think that carries more when all other things are equal. Take for instance by all accounts, Highlands has had a down year,, but their scheme and system did not change,, just the players they have do not have the talent of past teams.

In regards to Lexington having talent, I agree there is a huge talent pool in the area. However, are those kids playing football or are they being lost to other sports. I do not think anything is done in a vacuum and I am not taking anything away from offensive and defensive schemes and coaching. However, I think the biggest impact to any programs success are the players on the field.

I am not sure how many counties have open enrollment but I know that Boone County in NKY has closed enrollment.
