I do understand that this is the way it is for at least half the schools around the state and more than likely the country. Doesn't mean I'm going to agree with it.

Johnny Hines and his Pulaski County program are one of the best in Kentucky the last three years.

 

Here is a "Did you know?"

 

In five of his first 13 years as the HFC at Pulaski County, he had 3 wins or less in a season. Roughly 40% of his first 13 seasons were of three wins or less.

 

I mention that for two reasons.

 

1) He and his administration are to be commended (not to mention past players and community)

 

2) Coby Lewis at Trigg County has one of those and on the Hot Seat? I don't believe so.

By the way there are awards for GPA's and ACT scores! They are called Merit Scholarships!!

Great coach at Trigg but the fans have turned on him, he was a great coordinator

I put UK on the hotseat for boycotting the Ryle thread.

Sadly society has become crazy in thinking that high school is like college. Most coaches are trying and succeeding at making a difference in the young mens lives they coach and mentor. Parents and overbearing community membera have entirely too much influence now a days and administrators have no back bone and cave under the pressure of upset parents instead of looking ar what the coach does. Wish we could understand that continuity and consistent role models in these kids lives are more important. I mean look at the success or lack there of for 6A schools dethroning Trinity or StX and not near as much threat to fire coaches whenthey can't beat them. Sad situation when 1/5 of all coaches in our state are losing changing jobs each year. Hurts football in our state if you ask me

I am confused on why people in this thread think its ok to keep coaches in position as the head coach when they continue to lose. The job of the head football coach is to win football games. Yes it's great when coaches are fantastic life teachers and mentors and we all want coaches to do that, but a coaches job is to coach and win football games, and if you don't do that you should be fired. The job of teacher and counselors is to teach and mentor students.

Its a little different in high school since you are in most cases dealing with the talent pool of that school. It really does not matter what type of X's and O's you have if you do not have the Jimmy and Joe's to execute. Unless you are in a situation in high school where you can take advantage of open enrollment you are stuck with that schools population. Its talent that wins games.

That is only semi true, you can definately out scheme other teams. We still have about half the teams in the state lining up power I and trying to run it in 2015, about 40% of the teams buy the Tony Franklin system and barely practice. Very few good coaches are out there. I also see tons of teams winning with less talent, look at all the small schools that beat these Lexington schools, you can't tell me for a second that Lexington does not have the second most talent in the state outside of Jefferson county.

Isn't that what you do? Plenty of schools coaches do not work as teachers such as Lafayette, Taylor Co. West Jessamine, these guys are just coaches. Then the coaches who are teachers have separate contracts from their teaching job, you do not sign a contract that goes hand and hand with your teaching job. You can be fired as a coach and still have your teaching contract they do not go together. Plenty of coaches have been fired or resigned from their coaches spot and stayed on to teach, the contracts are completely separate from one another.

 

You have to apply for two separate jobs, one is a coaching job inside the district, the other is a teaching job.
