I have heard grumblings that Bullitt East may be looking to make a change.

I've always said the best coaches are who get wins in an improbable place, either in high school or college. Everybody talks about college coaches being great recruiters at places like Alabama and Ohio State. I'll take the guy who gets good players to go to a MAC school.

Same goes for high school. If you're winning games in a small town with kids who might, MIGHT, play on an NAIA or small school level, I really respect that. That's not to say that the coaches at Trinity and other powerhouses aren't good or great coaches, because they are. But, I want to see the coach who is laboring over a way to get his woefully slow WR in space, and who realizes that if he can't out scheme the next team on Friday, they'll lose.

There is such a beauty, if you want to look at it that way, in seeing a coach get so much more out of his players, because he spent so much time planning, scheming and prepping.

I agree with you to an extent. But when those said coaches win with less, guess what happens most of the time. They move up to the big schools.

Not most of the time, in fact I would say it's less often than we think. Lucas stayed at Collins knowing they would slide back, LeFores has stayed at CAL, Brad Hood at ACS, Hines at Pulaski, Greggory at Graves...too many to name. Granted those were not bottom feeders per say, but they all have had chances to move on to other schools, I am certain, and all have stayed put knowing their respective teams may never achieve the level of success or getting to a title game again. Sometimes a guy is just happy developing his kids and getting the most out of them. With that said, we do see it at times when a coach has some success at a school where there has been very little, that some move on...but who can blame them when it's win or you're out in today's HS sports world. Just food for thought.

This is going a little off topic here but I don't think you are giving NAIA and Div 2 and Div 3 much credit there. You think they are made up of kids from little country schools who are pretty good ?? I don't think you understand the talent level of small college football but maybe I'm wrong.

I fully get their talent level, but to say it is similar to that of any FBS team would be insane. I wasn't saying anything to slight the programs, but just to say that most coaches aren't sending kids to Alabama or even an EKU. Most coaches know that for almost all of their kids, if they're playing at a Pikeville, Cumberlands, LWC or Campbellsville, it's the best they could have done.

NAIA rosters aren't filled with elite kids. Granted the top end schools could have some transfers, but that's about it. They're filled with good enough high school players who are probably a little too small for their position or were maybe just a step too slow. Some of them might be there because of grades, but those guys will usually choose the JUCO route.

Not comparing them to FBS. I also get what you are saying about the type of coach you prefer. The guy competing for a state title every so often with no Div. 1 players on the roster. My only issue was the woefully slow wr comment that you might assume could and would play a lower division of football. He would not. He might wear a jersey for a couple of years but would never see a field. I actually agree with 90% of what you are saying. I just think NAIA, Div II and Div III is a much higher level of football than most honestly believe.

Its public school football and you are going to have bad years, that is a fact unless you do what some that have won state titles and recruit. I said some that have won them, so if your panties are in a wad about that statement your coach might have done that. Now if you put 4 season or you take over a program that has talent and you don't win then yes you should be let go, BUT to many of these dip#$%^ admin who don't know if a football is stuff or has air are making the calls on things they know nothing about and THEY SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR FIRES AND HIRES!!!!!

I guess my most of the time would be geared to college where they are not teaching. But it happens at high schools also. Dale Mueller would be one and Chris Wolfe would be a couple off the top of my head.

How long should a coach get if he's not winning any games?

D1 programs paying coaches seven figure salaries usually get at least four years, and they actually get to go pick their players.

So, I don't know, unless said high school coach who makes a whopping 7K to be a high school head football coach is a total jack hole, has no real knowledge of the game, is a terrible organizer, an even worse of a communicator and the entire program from LL-HS is a complete train wreck(given he has almost total control of it); I say keep your nose to the grind, try to schedule some hope and have a little fun when a group of talent comes your way and ride the waves.

And so long as you actually have somebody who wants to commit all of those hours and headaches for slap in the face pay, that also happens to be the complete opposite of all the negatives I named above; let it ride and enjoy the good times when they come around.

I think from the outside perspective any of the Bullitt schools would be a good job. But there has to be an investment from the BOE. Little to no practice field, same bleachers, track and locker rooms from when the schools were built and half the size they are now at all 3 schools. And no middle school football in Bullitt County, which blows my mind.

Sounds like a terrible job.

When I played a long time ago when there were 4 classes of football. I played against two of the three Bullitt schools. NB always had comparable kids to south Louisville. BE had a different type of kid, tons of parent support, fans galore at games and facilities much better than NB's. Easy to tell they were given the nod by the county officials. Plus I think all of the BOE members live in Mt. Washington and their kids all go to BE.... not a coincidence IMO.

BE would be a great job to get outside of the no middle school football.

I started an Open Job forum to continue open job discussions--- I think HOT SEAT is a little unfair for coaches that only get paid 4-8k to coach.
