June 26, 201511 yr It's a great day for me, I'm fiscally conservative, pro-life, Pro equality person. In the future presidential elections republicans don't have to worry about arguing gay rights. The issue is now done and will fade away into the sunset IMO.

Little tough to play the "Catholic-as-victim" card when six of the nine justices on the high court are Roman Catholics. I wonder if the home bishops for Kennedy and Sotomayor will now deny them communion like what happened to Kerry.
June 26, 201511 yr In the end, for most of us, tomorrow's day will begin and end and pass, and the next will come and pass, and so on and so forth, with absolutely no change to them related to this ruling. For some, though, end of life decisions, financial decisions and family decisions have finally been recognized as being as legitimate as those of heterosexuals...it literally changes their lives. If it doesn't affect you (speaking to the masses here) why the angst? Why is it so important to protect the ability to love, join in marriage, raise children, share assets, divide assets, visit a dying loved one in the hospital for heterosexuals only?

June 26, 201511 yr As a Christian I am against this decision. As a citizen, it bothers me that the supreme court can make this decision for the entire nation. If this issue were put on a national ballot and voters had a chance to voice their opinion, then I could accept it on my beliefs in democracy. I am very sad but not surprised that this day has come. I fear for that my children will grow up in a world that tries to convince them that what is wrong is actually right.
June 26, 201511 yr The church is not part of the Federal or State Government. The ruling today only protected homosexuals from being discriminated against by those entities. Forcing private institutions to recognize status that are completely against their doctrine will not be passed. The bold is key, the ruling TODAY does not threaten the tax exempt status of churches but I have no doubt that such is the goal for some and this was a critical step in that direction.

I would say most of the angst comes from those whose faith and values don't agree with the homosexual relationship. I have an adult daughter that is gay. If she wants to marry her partner, then so be it. Where I think she stands above a lot of gay people and most of the heterosexuals that try to defend the gays, she understands that there are those that don't agree with her relationship. She gets that there are those that have a different opinion and she respects that.

I know no gay person or straight person who is supportive of gay rights that doesn't understand that there will be those that disagree and all respect that. Are you saying she was fine with the fact that if she were to marry, her marriage would not be recognized as legal?
June 26, 201511 yr Luckily for people that disagree with the ruling, they won't have to marry someone of the same sex. As such, it won't affect your marriages, your religions or your own beliefs.

Truthfully the world is trying to convince your kids that what is wrong is right everyday regardless of this ruling.
