Polygamy may be next, and I don't have any issue with that either. Incest is one that there is a VERY strong social risk with as it has been shown that children born to incestual relationships have a significantly higher occurrence of birth defects/illness.

I wish I felt that way but I don't. I can see the LGBT going after a churches tax exempt status if they refuse to perform gay marriages because they would be espousing a political viewpoint from the church.

 

The church is not part of the Federal or State Government. The ruling today only protected homosexuals from being discriminated against by those entities. Forcing private institutions to recognize status that are completely against their doctrine will not be passed.

I'm pretty sure if you haven't seen or heard any homophobic statements today then you are in the minority. It also means his post wasn't meant for you so why would you take his post so personal?

1. You do the same thing all of the time. Most of your posts alienate the other side the same way you say these type of posts bother you. You'll never know how many times I have actually agreed with some of your posts but can't like them or tell you I agree because you constantly attack the other side for their beliefs.

 

2. If you aren't guilty of what those inflammatory posts are saying then you shouldn't take it personal since you aren't guilty of it.

But priests sign the state issued marriage licenses. Heck, in 2008 I didn't think I would see this happen, yet here we are. I have become pessimistic in that I don't see anything stopping the LGBT militants until no one, no way can say no to them in any way shape or form. I said it before, with them it's not just good enough to get their way, all differing opinions must be silenced.

Maybe we're at a chicken or egg place here but I really don't remember being as hyperbolic (if that's a word) as I've become until all of the hateful and caustic rhetoric started during the GWB administration. In 2008, ironically, I wrote a 25 page paper/research project in State Constitutional Law class about why the Defense of Marriage Act was Unconstitutional for a few reasons, one being violation of Equal Protection. I saw this coming b/c it was completely bogus for our Governments to deny rights to its citizens based on Sexual orientation. Having said that, the 1st amendment does not establish a state religion, nor does it permit the Federal Gov't (and the states through the Due Process Clause of the 14th amendment) from messing with a church's dogma. I'm telling you, there is no way that a court would listen to a challenge from a gay couple that wished to be married in the Catholic Church.

These days, I'm just beyond the politics of it all, and beyond the religious as well.

 

Today, I am nothing more than happy:

 

Happy for Neil and Jim who have been together for 35 years and now can know that whatever state they retire in, their marriage will be recognized.

Happy for Rodney and Scott and their two little boys, that their family's legality can be recognized just as any other family is recognized.

Happy for Steven and Sam who are still a young couple, that their life together can now proceed without the fears that they don't have to sacrifice recognition of the legality of their marriage for the prospect of a better job, or opportunity.

Happy for Beth, who has struggled for years with her orientation, but really, really yearns for a long lasting relationship...maybe now she'll be less guilt ridden by societal norms and move forward.

Happy for countless people I know and consider friends.

 

As someone earlier mentioned, the gays that I am personally acquainted with are church-going. They are involved in countless community volunteer projects. They are generous, kind and funny.

 

Today I am happy.
