That makes my heart even heavier.

Me too. He was so close to moving to a new understanding, but the hatred in his heart was too strong.

If you took any American History class you'd realize the Gadsden flag was designed for the American Colonies as a rallying symbol to separate from England. In essence it is the very first flag of The United States of America. Associating it with slavery is ignorant and just trying to promote an agenda.

What you describe is original intent. Over the years, the flag has morphed into an offensive symbol. During the Civil War, the Gadsen Flag most certainly was often used as a symbol of pro slavery among the Confederate army. In recent years, it's been appropriated by the Tea Party.

If what I say is not true, then why did the white South Carolina legislators remove said flag from their desks after the massacre? Answer: Because it's offensive to some.

@BuzzFeedNews: Charleston shooter disagreed about Scripture with group before opening fire, a witness’ family member told @nytimes http://t.co/M9TzskwlVL

Because they associate the flag with the tea party, therefore it has to be racist... It was designed for the Revolution. Some idiots back in the day may have used it as a pro slavery flag because it's design is meant for anti government. But in no way shape or form is it a pro slavery flag. You like the legislators are reaching here.

Heck it still flys on our navy ships

TTP spreading the hate.

Or at a bare minimum, fanning the flames.

So you tell me: Why was the Gadsden flag removed from legislators' desks yesterday? Which reincarnation was the offensive one? Was it the Tea Party association? Doubtful.

Fox News must be in a commercial break.

The Confederate flag flies high over South Carolina's capitol tonight. The U.S. and state flags have been lowered to half staff in response to the Charleston massacre, but not the Stars and Bars. The Washington Post reports only the S.C. state legislature can lower the colors of secession and, well, lawmakers obviously ain't in any hurry.

Do you think there are only white lawmakers in South Carolina? Or are they just bullying the black lawmakers to keep the flag flying?

This is a good question. If no one is offended then why remove it?

Wow, as if I couldn't feel any sadder about this.

Hang the roommate and anyone else who knew and didn't tell authorities is how I "feel".

As you said, that is just sad. ;(
