Shooting in Charleston, SC

Featured Replies

Shooter is having his bond hearing. The bond is for the firearms charge. Judge does not have authority to set bond for the murder. Not sure why they go through the process.

By state law a representative of each family member who died is allowed to speak. Shooter is getting a lot of preaching coming his way. One gentlemen asked him to repent. Another said she forgave him. Another said hate can't win. We have to forgive. May God bless you.

No doubt they seem like better people than me. I lean towards what HG20 said...not sure I could be in the same room with him much less forgive.

Probably a poor choice of words. A guy did go try to play frogger on I-75 this morning in West Chester. He didn't make it to the other side.

You're kidding?

Hmmm....

@TomNamako: Court docs: Dylann Roof’s father contacted police when he saw images of his son to ID him, said he owned a gun. http://t.co/LFsgPU7BaR

His uncle said he would pull the switch on the electric chair.

Let me get this right: The good-ol'-boy lawmakers willingly removed the Gadsden flags from their desks in Columbia today because said flag (which, I believe, symbolized the expansion of slavery) is a symbol of division. A truly moving gesture. Yet the Confederate flag (an even greater symbol of division) flies high tonight at the birthplace of the Civil War, unmoved by current tragedy, perhaps because of a technicality involving the scope of a special session.

Isn't this when state leaders should be leading?

Gadsen Flag is a Revolutionary War Flag, it is probably used in SC because Gadsen was from South Carolina.

Read through the thread a bit. We've already plowed that ground.

President says Confederate flag belongs in museum, not waving in the breeze.

***************

The White House said Friday that President Barack Obama thinks the Confederate flag that currently flies outside the South Carolina statehouse belongs in a museum, according to Reuters.

Debate over the flag was reignited after nine people were shot and killed in a historically black church in Charleston, South Carolina, on Wednesday.

The flag, which flies next to the statehouse at the Confederate Soldier's Monument, is not only protected by law, but also protected by a padlock that keeps it in place. The flag is not on a pulley system, so it can't be lowered to half-staff.

On Friday, NAACP President Cornell Brooks called for the flag to come down. Rep. Mark Sanford (R-S.C.) disagreed, saying removing the flag “should not be the immediate solution."

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley ® said she thinks "the state will start talking about that again" but declined to say if she thought it should come down. She's previously said she doesn't think the flag needs to be removed, but noted it's a "sensitive issue."

Yes, it's the flag's fault. Let's take it down and all of the madness will stop.

The flag obviously is not to blame.

However, the message it sends is not good.

At some point we might see a call to boycott South Carolina, or a business backlash similar to what happened in Indiana a couple-three months ago.

Do you think there are only white lawmakers in South Carolina? Or are they just bullying the black lawmakers to keep the flag flying?

Just how many black elected officials do you think there are in SC? (Or the US, for that matter?) Rest assured it isn't enough to block the efforts of those who long for a more antebellum time.

Just heard (yes, on Fox News) some of the statements of the family members at the evil one's hearing. They are much better people then I am. Maybe with time I could offer the animal forgiveness but not this soon.

God bless them and God grant peaceful rest to their loved ones.
