I seldom watch movies but I watched it last night and enjoyed it.

I think many who are unhappy with the move are so because it wasn't , in their mind, an accurate portrayal of the war. It didn't deal with the details. Not having seen the movie yet I'm guessing its intent was not political and more of a study of snipers. My guess is it does have some gratuitous lines or shots but that's Hollywood and to be expected.

 

If someone comes out of this movie somehow thinking it justified the war OR showed that the war was wrong then my guess is they missed the point.

Yep, I'm gonna go see it with Clyde, so I'm covered.

It wasn't even that great of a war movie. It was a great movie in terms about how the war affected Kyle. People who think it's a movie about the war miss the point

The facts may be a myth but he told the stories. He seemed to be caught up in being a "character." He said he killed two guys at a gas station who wanted to steal his truck. Reporters called every police department in the area and there were no cases of two guys being shot at any gas station.

 

This just supports Cooper's contention that this movie is a character study. Again, we want certain "types" of people defending us on foreign soil that we wouldn't necessarily want as neighbors. It's a great study of the way we rationalize things and make ourselves feel better.

Kyle's story on the gas station is two guys tried to car jack him and he shot them. Whne the cops arrived he gave them a number to call of someone with the government and it was swept under the rug. There is apparently a video of it and a police chief or sherif said he didn't have it but some of his officers saw it.

As a card carrying democrat/liberal I resent the fact that Michael Moore's feelings and beliefs automatically represent mine. It would be so easy to fall back on the whole "all republicans are racist" mantra but that would be just as stupid as people assuming all democrats/liberals fall in line with Michael Moore.

One thing I would like to add is the quote about Kyle enjoying killing "savages" has been taken out of context .

 

He was talking about the jihadists not all Iraq's. People coming out and judging him and who have never been in his positions seem petty and small.
